ASUS P8P67 WS Revolution double post during bootup

Retired
Not applicable
This is something I've noticed from my ASUS P8P67 WS Revo motherboard and i7-2600K. The default Bios settings preset the BCLK to 103.0 and multiplier to 43, now if I use this default setting everytime I fire up the system from cold boot, it double posts ie. it powers up, then powers off automatically for 5 seconds or so and powers on again before posting the initial screens. This double posts happens whenever the BCLK frequency is anything other than 100.0 . Which is quite strange considering the default value provided by ASUS is 103.0 and that causes it to double post.

I don't quite understand if there is some technical need for the system to double post, but surely it would raise eyebrows in users who aren't aware of this during 1st time use and will probably spend days and nights wondering if there's a hardware error somewhere.

Will there be a BIOS update in future which addresses this issue?

I'm interested in an answer to this question as well. I have the Asus EVO and my computer double post ever sense I received my B3 replacement board and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why it double post all the time.

Hi,

The default is actually 100.3 MHz as far as I am aware. The only thing that will change it to 103 is if you use one of the automated overclocking functions or offset it yourself.

The double-POST is required for offsetting BCLK and ensuring the system passes pre-POST checks (read/write training for memory and setting certain power up parameters -it's done in two steps). Without this double-POST there are certain BCLK combinations that cannot POST from power down and you have to creep the BCLK up slowly by going into BIOS and changing it. For that purpose we do it for you. Some other vendors don't do this for you and users have to go back into BIOS and increase the BCLK slowly to get what they want.

My advice is that if you do not want your board doing this, set the BCLK to 100.0 and use just the system multiplier to overclock the processor.

I had the same issue with my p8p67 pro with bios ver 1502. After google for couple of hours, this issue is commonly caused by memory.

I had 4 sticks of memory (2,2,2 & 1 gb) with same clock speed. I put 1 gb in A3 slots and the rest to a1,a2,a4. This caused double post issue. So I took 1 gb stick out. Put the rest of 2 gb sticks to a1,a2,a3. Clear CMOS and it works like a charm.

I also disabled J & M controller so that it wouldn't give me double screen booting up.
