The sound problems...do they exist when playing audio through the speakers, the headphones or both?
BTW: when did you first notice this problem?
If you could do the following just to rule out the obvious 🙂
1) plug a set of headphones into the the headphone jack on the front of the computer case
2) I will assume that the speakers are connected to the green (?) speaker output
If you are only picking up the popping noises on item 1 then I would suspect a HD Audio problem on the motherboard
If you are only picking up the popping noises on item 2 then I would suspect a issue with the speaker connection on the back panel
If both options have the popping noise issues it could be one of the following
- defective audio chip or supporting component (coupling capacitor)
- driver issue (may want to uninstall the existing driver and re-install an updated drive)
- small chance but there may be something in your existing OS install causing problems...maybe try a basic install on a spare hard drive
- also a Power Supply may cause problems like this but that would be a vary rare issue
Post back your findings or thoughts

Sounds like the same problem I have wih my HeroVII.
See here: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?53864-Audio-buzzing-on-Maximus-Hero-VII
I think it is a problem on the motherboard. One thing you could try: on google maps if you pan the map, so you hear a faint buzzing as I do? I definately think there is an issue with these boards and the HD Audio output.
