ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO Hell on Earth

Hiya

I wanted to know if anyone has a list of compatible hard drives and SSD's for the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO I have tried contacting asus support and asus tells me the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO doesn't have any defects or issues but I cannot get any hard drives or ssd's to work with the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO so I was curious if anyone here would have a list of compatible hard drives and ssd's that would work with the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO.

Not sure about HDD's. But Sandforce SATA II SSDs are not compatible with the Haswell platform in general.

would changing motherboard vendors solve this? I have seen it many years ago with other motherboards and it was solved by changing vendors by going from gigabyte to asus but in this case I am considering gigabyte or any other name that is capable of reading and seeing and utilizing hard drives and ssd's, currently the only thing I can get to work with the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO is a basic standard low end oem sata1 hdd though I wouldn't really consider it as a confirmation as I only installed windows and checked a couple of times the drives a bit to slow to do anything I only dug it out to see what the hell is going on with the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO motherboard the only purpose of this drive was back up as last resort for when and if ssd failed and not a replacement for gaming ssd's and the fact it runs like new so I never threw it out

last night I dug up a list but it seams very vague like the memory support list Secure Erase compatible SSDs list
the way I see it is if works with this tool it might work in general when I contacted asus directly in live txt support asus refused to recommend suggest or give a compatibility list of ssd and hdd's for the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO motherboard

I was thinking about trying a crucial M500 but it is not remotely on the list only a M4 which I will not buy and I worry that the M500 will most likely not work on the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO motherboard as it is much newer seeing as how this motherboard appears to have sporadic fits with hdd's and ssd's or it may work for a little while then bug out I am considering replacing motherboard with another vendor as I have tried contacting asus and the asus tech refused to file a bug report with the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO motherboard for a bio's up date I am fairly sure this can all be solved by switching vendors as I have done it before in the past what vendors and motherboards would you recommend as a replacement for ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO

There is no need for a bug report to be filed. As noted above the only drives that do not function with the board are based on SandForce 12xx controllers. No motherboards from any manufacturer will work with these drives. If you are wanting to solve this, at a minimum, you could state what drives you have tried, how they were connected and what issues you experienced.

Hmmm... Here is some technical details digged about issue w Haswell 8 series controller and LSI/SF12xx, and slide info about existing fix from ASUS. Is it wrong?

Marvell 88SS9187 doesn't work with the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO either

FWIW, I'm running a Samsung 840 evo, Corsair Performance Pro and a Seagate ST1000DM003. What have you tested so far?

I don't have any problems with HD's on my Hero, I have 3 WD Raptors 500 GB's and WD black 750 GB, two OCZ 160 GB's all running fine.

Western Digital SiliconEdge Blue SSC-D0256SC-2100 2.5" 256GB I honestly have no idea what controller the drive uses but I don't believe it is SandForce controller period personally I don't want anything to do with SandForce due to ozc's reputation and the controllers reputation also why I will not buy or touch a Intel SSD

I have tried connecting ssd to all intel sata ports with all the included sata cables that came with the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO motherboard
and the sata cables from my old motherboard the ssd it self is in mint condition and works with any mobo just not the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO mobo, the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO has a problem seeing the drive in bio's sporadically sometimes it is always there and some times it is never there this also results in bsod's in middle of operation and windows boot hitting the reset button on pc several times fixes it though some times only one or no resets are required it is sporadic the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO was purchased bran new one of the first times I went into the bios and I set the controller to ide the bios bricked and I had to clear the cmos in order to get the board to post the cd I use for secure formating and writing zeros only works when set to ide and I needed it since the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO built in ssd tool does not work period it either cannot see the drive or gives fake claims of frozen states ect

the cd allows me to formate all of my HDD's and SSD's in windows and dos I needed dos when installing os the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO built in ssd tool so far seams incompatible with everything I have thrown at it
