Asus Maximus VI Formula Bios Update - Black ram slots cause errors in Memtest86+ &

Hello everyone,

With issues regarding the motherboard to sometimes recognize a hard drive and othertimes not. It seemed a good idea to flash my bios. This was succesfull and I was able to boot. Now, I do not know if this issue started already BEFORE I flashed the bios, or after. But I had been experiencing crashes in every game. Driver reinstalls didnt work, a whole Windows reinstall also did not solve anything. I searched forums on what my next step should be. I stumbled across a thread that was saying it could be my ram. So I did a memtest86+ on them. Firstly, on all of them inserted ( 4x 4gb ), I received 136 errors. I then individually tested them on the closest slot to the CPU. NONE of them showed any errors. I continued to test, since now the probable faulty component was one of those slots. The red ones I inserted 2 sticks in, tested them: No errors. I inserted those same sticks into the black ones and immediately I had errors again. I know left the black slots unused, testing my PC with games and don't experience any more crashes! Wich is wonderful ofcourse, but this leaves me with only 8 GB instead of 16 GB...

Would you guys think this is a faulty motherboard? Or is this caused my a succesfull bios update?
My head is cracked on this issue...

Kind regards

Steven

It is easy to find out, simply look at the long white sticker on your motherboard, you should find it near the sata ports or the 24 pin power connector. The last four digits are your shipping bios.

Let me know how it goes.

Alright thanks! Will let you know

To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

No worries, I'm waiting untill my exams are over. Got my last one tomorrow, else I might be too worried during them and not pay enough attention on them..

Hello hello!

I'm back again. Fortunately, rolling back to previous BIOS version that was the original one of my motherboard, the RAM slots no longer cause issues.. Strange, unfortunately I cannot keep the newer BIOS version 1203. Is there a known issue on this matter with the newer Bios Version ?

The only bios version I can run BF4 without problems is 1102. Occasional problems even with this version if XMP is used for my G.Skill 2800
so I just run it at 1600. Kinda stinks but its better then starting BF4 over again. Even with 1102 I get an error with a WD HD about SMART and to replace the drive. I had to change the bios to only use the boot drive a Samsung 840 EVO. I will try the next release from ASUS when it is released hopefully the memory issues will be cleared up.

Seems like most issues are memory related then? This is the first motherboard that caused me this much trouble and also the most expensive one :s

Anyway, running 0714 seems to be running fine for me. The ram sticks no longer give issues. Only weird thing is that I cannot format a WD Black 1 TB drive while I can do this on another computer.. My PC just won't let me..

The Z87 boards seem to be having stability issues with anything past 0804 .... at least OCs that were stable under 0804 are now unstable on anything since even with significantly increased VID. My 4.6 OC is no more.... my 4.5OC requires more voltage and runs hotter.
