HI all,

I bought Maximus V Formula Mobo for my new build. Everything works fine but HDMI output from i7's iGPU.

Config:
Motherboard : ASUS Maximus V Formula
Pocessor : Intel i7 3770k
Memory : G.Skill TridentX 2400 MHz (8 GB x2), Dual Channel
CPU Cooler : CoolerMaster V6 GT Cooler
Chassis :NZXT Phantom Black
HDD/SSD : None. (Ordered but Not Shipped)
PCI-E GPU : Not Installed. (Will Install ASUS Radeon HD5870 from old machine)
Monitor : ASUS PA238Q IPS 23"
PSU : Corsair HX750.

POST is OK. I'm booting from external hard drive (Windows 8 Release Preview).
Verified HDMI Cable - Working
Verified Monitor's HDMI Port.
DisplayPort Output is ok.

Even though I'll never use iGPU after installing my ASUS HD5870, I need to know what's wrong with HDMI?

Is processor or Motherboard bad?

It depends what monitor you are using or TV.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

When I was testing my MVF prior to installing in the case I could not get onboard HDMI to work with my Sharp Aquos 26" TV, HDMI works fine with my Asus monitor though.

Like HiVizMan said, It depends on the monitor/TV you are using.

I'm using ASUS PA238Q 23" IPS panel. I've checked 3 different devices including my android phone on HDMI port of monitor, and they all work fine.

It could be 1080p / 1080i support issue. But windows is not showing HDMI monitor as plugged at all which is strange because DDC clocks on HDMI should read Monitor's EDID.

Thanks HiVizMan and Helidan.

I don't have any other Monitor/TV right now. I'll check with good quality HDMI cable and see if it works.

Please try this

Remove the discrete graphic cards from your system.

Connect your cable from the on-board device to a monitor without using any adaptors please.

Clear CMOS to reset factory defaults.

Power on.

Wait for the boot process to happen, it will take a little while as the CPU is busy retraining the memory.

If all goes well, F1 will be the next keystroke you will make. And you will be prompted to do so once you can see your picture on the monitor.

Update :
I installed my ASUS HD5870 on the system now. GPU has 4 ports : 1 HDMI, 2 x DVI-I (Dual Link), 1 DisplayPort.

I've been using this GPU with my old machine from past 3+ years. I never used Display port on old machine.

Here's the thing :
HDMI and DVI ports are not working. DisplayPort works fine.

Overall :

ASUS MAXIMUS V Formula (iGPU) <-> ASUS PA238Q Monitor
1. HDMI not working
2. DisplayPort Works fine.

ASUS HD5870 <-> ASUS PA238Q Monitor
1. HDMI not working
2. Both DVI not working (BUT Works with DVI-I <->VGA adapter).
2. DisplayPort Works fine.

Freind's Laptop <-> My ASUS PA238Q Monitor
ALL Ports working (HDMI/DVI/DisplayPort/VGA)

Cables Tried
1. DVI-D to DVI-D (dual Link)
2. DVI-D(Dual Link) to HDMI
3. HDMI 1.4 (A-A) cable
4. Tried DVI-HDMI Adapter.

When I say not working -
MONITOR IS NOT DETECTED.

Verified CABLES - All Working with other setup.
Verified Monitor - All ports (DVI/HDMI/VGA/DisplayPort) working
I know Graphic Card's HDMI & DVI were Working.
+5VDC on HDMI port of GRaphic card is Verified.

My assumption of Bad HDMI port on Maximus V Formuia is ruled out. I'm clueless.

Any Idea Why HDMI/DVI hates me? Why Digital Half of DVI is not working? Why Windows 7/ Windows 8 , even BIOS don't see my monitor via HDMI/DVI.

I played Crysis 2. System Functions normally. Can Anyone tell me if there's a way to force Signal via Display sub-system and bypass EDID so I can segregate the part.
