Asus Maximus IV Extreme Z problem with keyboard/mouse

Clopyright

Good morning guys! I have a strange problem, that happens to me for a second time within 1.5 year. When i boot my PC it did not recognized the keyboard and the mouse, neither the USB ports that the devices were connected. They appeared as Unknown Devices in the Manager Tab. I tried everything and it finally worked by just reseting the BIOS. It was fixed for about 1.5 year. And then yesterday it did it again. I fixed it with the same way: by resetting the BIOS. Any idea why this happened?

Hello Clopyright

I have the V extreme, it has 2 bios's on it. I'm not sure if your board does, but if it does try bios 2. If not, you could try updating the bios if you haven't already.

Does your board have the LED readout? What code Is the motherboard showing when this happens? Check in your manual if it isn't showing AO.

AO means my board is working properly and I assume yours would be the same.

Hello mate and thanks for your reply. I tried today to upgrade to the latest BIOS version, but after the first reboot it got stucked so i abandoned the process and i flashbacked to the previous BIOS version. Dunno why, i extracted the whole zip in my USB stick. The stange thing is that the debug code does not change, it remains AO like yours. The only problem is that i cannot check it, as this incident happened twice in 1.5 year.....

Since you just reinstalled the bios try it like this for a while, if it does it again then we will investigate further.

That's strange it freezes on the update but lets you install the original.

Yeap i found it strange too... It says it completes the initial flash, it reboots, reaches the screen with the ROG logo, it reboots again, and then it freezes. I have black screen, and the Code 55 in my debug led screen...

Code 55 usually means memory not installed, try clearing the cmos then boot. You can also try booting with one stick of ram in the A1 slot.

You mean to make the BIOS update without any memory sticks on the MB?

No, I meant if you are still getting code 55 to clear the cmos then try starting your pc. if it still gives you code 55, try starting your pc with one stick of ram.

I get that code when my PC is restarting for first time after the bios update...
