Hi there,

Does anybody know if an "ASUS MATRIX-HD7970-P-3GD5" is compatible with the "ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z" before I buy it?

After having MAJOR* problems with a "Club Radeon HD 7870" and "ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z" I thought I would ask somebody who knows more than me 😄

Regards, Sam

Hello Sam

According to AMD both those cards are compatible to the boards chipset. I know for a fact that many users have the Matrix and the CVF-z

Out of interest what CPU will you be using?

Hey HiVisMan!

I already have the board and processor (AMD FX8-8350 AM3+ 4.0GHz)

I have been trying to get the Club Radeon to work with my system for 3 weeks and no luck so I sent it back...

Just wanted to be sure because so many people have saisd that PCIe 3.0 graphics cards are not supported by PCIe 2.0 motherboards

Someone has been pulling the wool over your eyes mate, or in your case, seemingly a lot of someones and they are mis-informed...there's this awesome thing in most hardware called backwards compatibility, which allows anyone to use older hardware on newer hardware. For example...you can use say a SATA or SATA II Drive on a SATA III port. PCIe and PCIe 2.0 graphics on a PCIe 3.0 slot etc etc and the support for PCIe cards no longer comes from the Motherboard any more, it comes from the CPU 🙂

Nah mate that is not true.

Their is no worries using those cards with the board. I have done so many 100 of times. You should not have any problem. Check out the PCIe slot and make sure there is no gunk in the slot. Have had that a few times.

I do have that mobo, that CPU and that card which are mentioned in the OP... - they have worked perfectly together, even in 3-way CF...
