Hello ive just bought a second hand ASUS Crosshair V Formula be for i bought it the person i bought it from said he new nothing about computers so was just selling the bits from his computer because ti failed on him. One day it was working and the next it wasn't it would turn on but nothing on screen. So i thought it must of been the gfx card so i bought it. now i have another asus motherboard ( cheapey one ) and have a amd fx8120 8 core chip in it and all works fine. ( So the chip is working ) I put the chip into the ASUS Crosshair V Formula board and memory and everything and the cpu light is staying on...... And there is no output to the screen.

I only have the amd fx chip so can not test with other chips. I press the go button on the board then the cpu led stays on and the meroy led starts flashing and the go led at the top of the button starts to flash. When i start the computer the led which lets you know what voltsige is going thought the cpu shows orange then goes off . I am running the chip in my cheap motherboard and all works fine so i know it ent the chip. I have pressed the both button on the back of the motherboard ( were the usb ports are etc ) But no luck i just turn the computer on and no output the cpu fan runs and everything and everything is fine just no output and the cpu led stays on.

Is this a bios problem or ? I was thinking of buying a new bois chip and putting that in because i have a feeling the person tryied to update the bois and updated backwards so now when you put new chips in it does not pick it up......

Have your flashed the board to a BIOS that will pick up your CPU? Or was the board working with a Bulldozer CPU before?
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I can't flash the bois because i have no display...... Has i have said the board works cpu fan spins and everything but there is no output on the screen. I have tryied diffrent gfx cards in the board in each slot to make sure a slot ent down e.g put a gfx card in slot 1 test then moved it into slot 2 tested but no display on any. Board powers up but no display because the cpu light comes on and stay on the cpu is in fine..... But has you said i think it needs a bois update but can't do it with out nothing comming up on the screen so i guess ill need to buy a bois chip and switch it over ???

And i donno if the Bulldozer CPU worked in it befor i bought the board from some one and have not been told what chip was in it be for. I think they backdated the bois...... Tryied to update it but instaled the wrong bois and then computer stopped working so sold it to me..... now i need to update it ( with out no display )

You can revert the BIOS back if you want to, and you do not need the display to do that. Plus you can flash the BIOS using ROG connect too.

There is a thread with a vid showing how to revert a bios.

could you please provide link to the video please ?

I have pressed the go button has ive said and also pressed the 2 button on the back were the iso shield is with no luck... donno if there is any more buttons i ent pressed..... would be great if you could provide the video link ??
"Plus you can flash the BIOS using ROG connect too. " can you do that with out a display ??

USB BIOS flashback can be used if the system is unstable - it's far safer...

Just rename the file to R4E.ROM and use a FAT formatted flash drive.

Yeah that is about it.

Or choose a BIOS that you are happy with if you have a personal fav. 😛

Ok so ive had problem after problem. I have tried it out but never worked. I downloaded the lastest bois from the offcial website The "CrosshairV-Formula BIOS 1301" one which was made in 2012 so not old from http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/Crosshair_V_Formula/#download

I have even gone to cpu suported ont here website found the amd fx 8120 clicked on go and it came up with the newist bois downloaded it onto a fat32 usb stick I put it in the usb port and usb 3 port it picked it up ( the usb light came on ) But i held the button in on the back it lit up but no flashing lights in side like the video showed. I then pressed " go " button in side on the board then the lights started flashing like in the video i thought i was gettign some were the cpu light was still staying on and the memory led was flashing even if i toke everything out cpu and memory ... if i take everything out and just power up the board the cpu light still stays on even tho there is no cpu in the socket has soon has i press the " go " button memory led starts flashing with or with out memory in ( only happens when i click go button )

So i pressed go for a few seconds lights started flashing i waited but nothing.... they kept flashing for about 30 / 40 mins reset the computer but still the same problem. So im gussing ill need to buy a new bois chip ?
