Asus Crosshair V Formula no boot, no error

Good day everyone,
it's the first time I wrote here, as it's the first time I have a problem with a ROG product 😉

Following my system specs:
PSU HX Series HX750 Power Supply — 750 Watt 80 PLUS® Gold Certified Modular PSU
M/B Crosshair V Formula/ThunderBolt
CPU AMD FX-8150 Socket AM3+ 8Core 3.6MHZ 125W Box
RAM DDR3 G.Skill RipjawsZ F3-17000CL9Q-8GBZH 2133MHz 8GB (4x2GB) 9-11-10-28-2N 1.65V
GRAPHIC VGA Asus Radeon HD 7970 Core 925MHz Memory GDDR5 3GB

I've just bought all the stuff above, and the first start of the system "failed"... actually it seems to work, but nothing appear on the screen (it said no cable).

Following the checks I've made:
- everithing seems powered (cpu fan on, hdd running, graphic card fans blowing, thunderbolt light on, etc)
- no beeps
- no Q-Led is lighted
- CPU/DDR/NB/SB Led are lighed in a green light

I know for sure that the graphic card works as I've tested it on another PC.
I've tried to remove the graphic card to check if there was some beep, but nothing happened (I didn't make the same type of test removing the CPU, but I'll do it later).

My thought goes to the RAM, as it's not certified for the MB and, thanks to a friend, I'll be able to make a test with a pair of certified RAM.

Meanwhile someone has a clue on what could be happening or maybe if there are other tests I can do to find out the problem?

Thanks everyone in advance 🙂

G.Skill RipjawsZ lol will be problem as i got them tried them in my pc and nothing happened for me too.

The z are designed for Intel LGA2011 and X79 systems
Compatible with Intel LGA1155 and AMD Llano/AM3+ platforms
Intel XMP support for 2nd and 3rd Generation Intel Core Processors.
Try G.Skill ARES they work on Crosshair v.

Thanks a lot Dark, you've confirmed my thoughts...
When I choose that RAM I missed they were designed for Intel LGA2011 and X79 :(.
I'll test the system with the suggested RAM and report. If it'll work I think this could be usefull to someone else as I've found plenty of threads of people having similar issues.

Thank again

😞 nothing to do 😞
Changing the RAM didn't solve the problem, even a qualified RAM didn't help: no beep no Qled lightened ecc.
I will call the store and ask for a M/B replacement.
Thanks for all

What POST code is displayed on the hex display?

Hi Raja@ASUS,
I didn't notice any hex display on the MB, can you be more clear please?
Thanks

Sorry Raja but the CHV doesn't have a Hex Display yet till the Z board comes out...

ilmaren look at the sticker next to the Power connector and tell us what the last 4 numbers are. Those are the BIOS that was installed by Asus at the Factory. If they are less than 08xx then you'll need to flash your BIOS to a Newer version before it will let you boot. A lot of these Motherboards were shipped with an old BIOS that came before the FX chip came out.

OK first things first, there is nothing wrong with using that G. Skill RAM in your setup...how do I know? I just put a 16GB Kit of the RipjawsZ in my current setup 2 days ago and it works flawlessly 😄 I got the F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL. You may have to manually adjust the Voltage though to 1.65 once you get it going...strange though, because mine is rated at 1.5V

Following on from DaemonCantor's post above mine(and you have the old BIOS). If you happen to have a spare compatible CPU laying around, or can borrow one. Remove your 8150, put in the other CPU, once you have your first successful boot up, power down your system and then follow this small guide.

1. Download - I would recommend BIOS Revision 1102 from the ASUS Support Website
2. Extract the ROM file onto a FAT Formatted USB stick
3. Stick the USB drive into any of your USB Ports and power up your system
4. Hit del to enter BIOS
5. Go to the "Tool" tab and click on "EZ Flash"
6. Follow the prompts to update your BIOS
7. Reboot and you should be good to go

If by some reason you still cannot get your system to make that first boot....try making sure all your ATX connectors are plugged in, including the 4 PIN Molex connector and double check your PCIe Power cable(s) too 🙂

Good luck and let us know how you go 🙂
