99% of sata ports provided by addin controllers are garbage while the asmedia ports are not as bad the the old jmicron and marvell controllers asus used to use your still better off using the intel ones
no need to do a speed comparison imo as a 3g intel port is suprioer to a 6g addin port i would use that even if the device is 6g capable just make sure you but your OS and data drives in the intel ports and if your low on ports use your optical drive on the asmedia one
I have tried both the standard sata 6 ports and the asmedia port for a ssd. The drive was drastically faster on the standard sata 6 ports. 110-120 mbs VS 400 + mbs
i would never use a SATA-3/6GB/s port for optical drive myself, bcs it will be a waste of bandwidth, bcs most if not all SATA optical drives r still only SATA-1/1.5GB/s i should rather use a SATA-2 port for that.
