I can confirm that Maximus Hero VI will indeed work with SM951 (PCIex4, AHCI), via the ASUS Hyper M.2 Kit, but a bit of work is needed to get it working. And to help people with the same issue, here's what I have done:
I followed Fernando's instruction from Win-RAID forum from link here, to create a MOD BIOS, in order to get the SM951 to show up in Boot Menu under UEFI/BIOS. Without this MOD BIOS, the SM951 SSD will not show up as an option for booting under UEFI/BIOS; it only showed up under Windows.
To create this MOD BIOS, I used the latest BIOS for Maximus Hero VI (build 1603) and inserted the "SAMSUNG_M2_DXE" module, using the AMI Aptio MMTool 4; Fernando from WIn-RAID have a very detailed instruction here on how modules can be inserted into BIOS here.
To update the motherboard with this MOD BIOS, I also had to do the Asus BIOS Flashback method, basically updating the BIOS with a USB drive via the designated USB Port on the back. The MOD BIOS had to be renamed to "M6H.CAP" for this to work as well.
Let me know if more detail is needed.
