Anyone got mPCIe Wifi card working in their Maximus V Gene?

Hey guys, It seems like myself and 2 other posters can't get our mPCIe Wifi cards to work in the Maximus Gene V. It was originally discussed in this thread Maximus Gene V and Wifi Go! I have a Broadcom BCM94313 and the others have an Intel 6300 and 6230. Drivers for my broadcom installed correctly but it just can't find or broadcast a wireless signal.

If anyone got one working please let us know what your setup is. Thank you.

5/14/12 UPDATE: After doing some research it appears the adapters listed on eBay from various sellers as having Bluetooth 4.0 capability are false. 168-accessories and others are listing the BCM94313HMGBL as BT 4.0 compatible but the BT chip on this card is BCM2070 (3.0), not BCM20702 (4.0). Small difference to some, but false advertising either way. Also, 65 mbps is the maximum speed this card supports. For my purposes (mostly bluetooth) this card is acceptable. If you bought one of these cards already please leave some feedback with the sellers indicating their specs are wrong.

5/15/12 UPDATE: More research. It appears the BCM94313HMGB can be both Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0, depending on the firmware and VID/PID. I have two cards with exactly the same FCCIDs and model numbers on them, everything matches on both cards. So some sellers may have the right cards or a mix of them, but you wouldn't know which was which without installing the card and checking the PID. It's all kind of moot because both operate exactly the same in the Maximus V Gene. So, if this helped anyone, please let me know. Otherwise it's just a bit of OCD 😛

BCM94313HMGB with Bluetooth 3.0 (BCM2070) -> USB\VID_0A5C&PID_21B4&REV_0481
BCM94313HMGB with Bluetooth 4.0 (BCM20702) -> USB\VID_0A5C&PID_21E3&REV_0112

What works:

I can confirm the BCM94313HMGB (listed above) works on the Maximus V Gene. I pick up wireless networks and can connect without issue. Speed is not ~300 mbps yet, but tinkering with setttings should get it there (EDIT: 65-72Mbps is the max speed for BCM4313).

Instructions for compatible Broadcom adapters:

Wireless: Uninstall any previous drivers in Device Manager by right-clicking your adapter and selecting Uninstall. Also remove any installed drivers via Programs and Features in Control Panel. RIght-click your adapter again and select Update Driver Software... > Search Automatically for driver software. Windows 7 should immediately install wireless drivers.

Update: There appear to be newer wireless drivers on the web for the 4313, such as these from HP. They are tested and work fine.

Bluetooth: I didn't have luck with the generic Widcomm drivers, but that may be because I had Intel Bluetooth drivers installed initially. Anyway, download ASUS' P8Z77-V Bluetooth driver here: http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z77V_DELUXE/#download It's the big guy ~440 MB. Install and you should be good to go. I connected an HTC Sensation 4G and it installed all profiles correctly. In short, everything works.

Thanks again for your time optimist. Ahh this is very frustrating for me. I have done the exact steps above. It seems to be properly installed yet it still can't find any wireless signals. I also reassembled all my hardware twice now making sure everything was properly seated. I have no idea how to get it to work. Perhaps there is some setting i need to change but im not sure what, i have kept everything at its defaults since building the system.

Optimist, one last question. When i go to (bios > Advanced > Sata Configuration) there is a listing for MPCIE combo. It says "Not Present" on the same line across from it. What does your say? This is strange since it detects my mpcie card when windows loads up.

Thanks Optimist, Im sending my intel 6300 back and just ordered two different types of BCM4313 from ebay. I also ordered a PCI-E card if all else fails...I need wireless working on this rig

EDIT:

I got this broadcrap thing and couldnt get it to work either 😞

Sorry to hear that, ahobanger. This looks like a trial and error process. Would you mind posting the VID/PID from Device Manager of both the wifi and bluetooth? Also, what antennas are you using?

Sorry man, I RMAd it today...between the "55" ram error and the wifi problem I had enough.

I just finished my rig with a Gigabyte sniper and this PCIE WIFI adapter instead and it works perfectly.

Unfortunately, the gigabyte does not give enough clearance between my powersupply and the second PCIE 3.0 lane, so SLI/CROSSFIRE is out. So, I'm gonna wait a few months for ASUS to get their act together on the Gene V and then I'll try again because I really want to run two 680gtx 4gb cards.

If pcie space is what you needed why not USB WiFi. Plug and play.

install this module in to my system, wifi work, bluetooth partially work. I think is the driver problem, but can't find any driver that would suit this module.

Try Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth® technology 1.1 (64bit) didn't work

under windows device management the bluetooth display using windows generic driver. I was able to make connection to my xbox bluetooth headset but the device can't be more than 20 cm away. Once i move away from that approximate distance the bluetooth disconnect. I also try connecting with my samsung i9100 and ipone 4 none of these device work unless you next to the device.

any solution

I posted on the below link before coming across to this thread.

Even the best USP WIFIs have a lag to them, which stinks for gaming. I have plenty of PCIE slots since I am only going one 680gtx for now. I am waiting for the 4gb 680gtx or the 780gtx before I go sli so I have time to wait until the Gene V gets better software support.

I already miss the Gene V because it overclocked my 3770k at 4.4ghz @1.22v, whereas it takes the Gigabyte Sniper 1.28v to hit 4.4ghz!
