AM3+ Socket is loose!

Hi,
yestuday when i removed my amd fan from my crosshair v formula z for applying a new paste,
the cpu came out with the heatsink!:eek:
it was stuck to it!
is my socket loose or it is normal!:confused:
please reply!!!

yes the cpu was locked

This happens, better to remove a 'wam' chip than cold for just this reason.
That said, that done. Examine the pins closely to make sure
none are bent.
If they are .. use a razor blade to line them back up .. *carefully*.

The first time this happens it can be a big shock.

But it is not the end of the world as yo found out. Pins are easy to fix if bent.

It happens, even to those of us who've been building systems for god knows how many years, happened to me too recently I was like "WHAT THE HELL?!" then realised, though I thought i'd locked the CPU into place, clearly, it wasn't so lol

I found that slightly twisting the heatsink to break the suction caused by the thermal paste.

Yeah, warm CPU and careful twisting of the cooler after you removed the screws should prevent that...
