Accidentally overvolted cpu

So about 6 months ago when trying to manually set the voltage for base speed on my 4790K I accidentally typed 1.800v into the CPU rebooted and then loaded into windows and realised so immediately rebooted and set voltage back to normal.

Another member said i wouldn't have done the CPU any long term harm coz I didn't stress test and temps were normal range on boot up.

Also asked a local PC tech who confirmed it shouldn't have done any damage as I didn't run anything heavy.

PC has been running fine ever since.

Not a great thing to do...BIOS field should have gone very red to alert you...I'm surprised it didn't give you an overvoltage error! Have you turned voltage monitoring off in BIOS?

...but probably little harm done if it was for a very short while...

It did go bright red, but I was quickly doing it and didn't realise.

Didn't give me an overvoltage error either. Just entered 1.8v, saved and rebooted. Then after getting back into windows I opened internet then rebooted. And put back to safe voltage.

Nothing to worry about. You restarted immediately and didn't run anything that might damaged the CPU.
