Hi,
I just installed my new CrossHair V & i am able to get into the bios. But i cannot boot into windows.
I do not suspect ram becuase my Dram light is not on & bios says mem test is ok.

I get a message about not being able to find a boot device. Another message i get is something about intel something or other v1.3.51(im at work i can post the full message later) & something about LAN adapter config is corrupt or not initialized boot cannot continue.

What i find wierd is that i can see all 3 hard drives & cd drive in the bios & can change the boot order, but it cant boot. Also sometimes it will try to boot windows(ill see the little windows graphic & load bar) & then fail & resume the boot loop with the above messages.

I will be testing to boot up with a spare hard drive from another pc & test my current drives in another system as well.
Thanks in advance,
Sean

If you're not using the ASMEDIA controller that message will pop up. If you disable it in the bios it won't. It's under Onboard peripherals.

You can disable the Asmedia controller post by setting from "Force Bios" to "Use Current" in the bios.

Asmedia is the SATA controller, if you disable the Intel Lan under onboard peripherals, you won't have a LAN adapter.

Thanks, I'll check that out later also.
But as far as my intel lan port...even if i get that boot message off, i don't know if my internet will work? Becuase as of now, the port seems innactive. No lights when a lan cable is plugged in & in the device manager it says "this device cannot start(code 10)" & yes it is enabled. Is it possible i got a bad lan port? That would be a shame, everything else seems fine.

Have you tried connecting to the internet to see if it works or not?
I'm afraid that it doesn't look good if you have no orange light in the LAN port when a cable is plugged in.
And seeing that you get that LAN error code in Device Manager is also an indication that something is wrong with the adapter.

Did you install the latest Intel ProSet LAN driver?

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but if it were me, I would RMA the board for a replacement.

Good luck...

Well the Asus guy on the phone had me uninstall & reinstall the device & drivers. I didn't expect anything but did it anyway. & as i expected it did nothing. When i tols him about the intel lan message i get, he said i should call microsoft?lol
Well anyway, i rma'd the board, hoping for better luck with the next one.

Thanks all for the replies & help. I'll post back when the new board is in.

It has never made sense to me to build a brand new system
from the table on up only to use the drive from the last build.
Well, we all love our files..and tweaks.

What is the advantage of the ssd's now..does the os run better,
faster, stronger? The boot time on this board averages 50 seconds
to log on. SSD's, Sata HD's and Raptors.
Is the advantage then in the os operation? Im asking. Or, Is there one?
I can understand running a game off of a smaller one (60ish) though.

What version intel driver is everyone using?
I know the conventional wisdom is download and install the latest
driver. I live by, If it 'aint' broke, dont fix it...
I have had no issues at all since this update:
ver.11.11.43.0
21-Jun-11

Best of Luck on the next one...the forum isnt going anywhere. 🙂
Great job all

I'm using the same Intel driver, no issues at all for me.
SSD's, not for me either, I'm not that convinced there's any price to performance to capacity advantage.
watermoccasin, good luck, and report back when you get the replacement board.
