4770K and UEFI BIOS 1504

Hi all,

I have the Asus Maximus VI Formula motherboard running 1402 UEFI BIOS.

I see it says that 1504 has enhance compatibility for new Anniversary Edition and Devil's Canyon CPU.

Is there anything else in there that is not listed which would make sense for me to update?

Should I update anyway? I have always updated on new releases.

Why is that EZ Update never notify's me that a new UEFI is available? It starts up ans is always in the tray. I always find it manually on my motherboards driver page.

Thanks

It is a beta version of BIOS. I wouldn't upgrade (and I am not) unless I were to get a Devil's Canyon or Anniversary Edition Pentium.

Don't bother worrying about AI Suite not telling you there is a new BIOS update, more often than not, people brick their BIOS chips when doing a BIOS update from within Windows. it's always the safer option to do it from within the BIOS 🙂

I wasn't talking about the AI app but the seperate process EZ Update.

I use the bios to do my overclocks but If I want to change something just for a short time I'll do it in AI Suite 3 and don't have problems since understanding how it works. I believe only the 4 way optimisation is bugged I have my OC in BIOS set to manual.

I might change the Voltage of the CPU and Cache and their multiplyers in AI Suite 3 if I want to run 4.4GH. Restarting simply goes back to your Bios overclock. I have the CPU set at 43x @1.237v and Cache at 43x @1.25 in the BIOS.

Couldn't live without Fan Expert 2 though.

AI Suite 3 has a bad rap but it's not as bad as some people make out. Even if something did happen there is a AI cleaner and you can clear the CMOS if need be and re-flash the BIOS.

I have to agree .... i think a lot of that is institutional memory from the ole days when it was less reliable. I have done it over 100 times via windows w/o a hiccup. But I m just as comfortable using EZ Flash off a USB or loading a copy of the SSD or HD (also "not recommended) or Flashback.

Don't forget the dudes in TS hear all the "Update Gone Bad" stories, so if 1 in a 1000 goes bad, that's 1,000 calls they get per million boards 🙂
