2-way SLI on Maximus V Extreme - best slots 8x/8x or 8x/16x?

I am looking at ASUS MVE manual and it seems that for 2-way SLI ASUS proposes using Intel CPU native bandwidth for both cards (8x/8x natively) using slots PCIe3.0_1 (top first) and PCIe3.0_2B (third from top). I know that switches/bridges may cause some lag, so it makes sense *IF* each of cards doesn't exceed the PCIe3.0 8x bandwidth (I think 670 2GB cards don't but I am unsure of it).
Also this configuration allows for better air flow between cards which probably matters if one relies on air cooling ... I don't, both cards are water cooled.

however I see there is also another config possible which is based on 3-SLI configuration and for 2-SLI it would suggest using both top first and second slots, PCIe3.0_1 & PCIe3.0_2A respectively for x8/16x.

tomorrow I will be installing my second 670 2GB for 8x/8x config for now and I hope it works fine (no lag related to PLX chip switching).

does anybody have some benchmarks comparing same cards and CPU clock (and memory) running 2 cards in each of mentioned configurations?

Thanks!

Then there's definatly something else wrong. Ithought U said you had triple card did it fit in 1 + 2b? Anyways, I've seen this kinda thing a few times, with my own sys, the only way round it was to to do a clean install. (are you using win 8 or 7 x64?
Sorry I couldn't be more help

yes i have 2 3-slot cards and placed in 1 and 2b leaves about 5 millimeters between them this is why i placed them in 1 and 3 slot. i have windows7. do you think that with windows 8 i could solve the problem?? it is such a pain in the *** to do a fresh install 🙂

are those cards 600 series or 500?
if they are 600 then you need to turn off the in-game VSYNC, this is what is cutting your FPS into half whenever the physical FPS drops below 60, that's how it works.
instead, enable the Adaptive VSYNC in NV Control panel 3D settings, it will cap FPS at 60 (or whatever native for your screen) and automatically disable it when you actual FPS drops below (so it doesn't get halved).

if cards are 500, then you can disable vsync, but most likely you will see sceen tearing whenever FPS spikes above 60 or whatever your screen's native refresh rate is.

with regards win 8 I noticed that with the latest drivers I get 10 to 15 fps more on win8 than win 7 (dual boot setup) It's probably something else but there you are.
@Feniks With the new driver crysis 3 already has a custom profile, so that should be ok. Mines set to use the 3d application setting

Good point my old mate forgot that little nugget of info

when i deactivate vsync in game nothing changed.ivetried to activate adaptive in nvidia panel but i got worse fps. nowwith all set to very high with AA in fxaa at 1440 p i got between 47 and 60 fps.if i put msaa 2xi got steady 37fps, the same with txaa high. if i go to 1080p so i stay on average 55 fps with txaa high

No all 690's are built against reference. Might I suggest 2 680's would be a better choice, there are quite a few 2 slots designs no available + 2 of those are better than a 690
