Sorry to whine...but I'm pretty gutted =(

Hi there,

I've recently finished a new build and spent a lot of time gradually getting parts together. Finished with the jewel in the crown - an Asus Strix GTX 1080 8GB Adavnce edition. I've installed it and am broken hearted to hear horrible fizz/squeal which I believe is known as coil squeal. From what I've read this isn't terminal, but when I've spent so much on a brand new system - and hundreds on the GPU alone - I just can't help being upset by the noise. I also bought an Asus PG279Q monitor, which is fabulous, but as you can guess by this...I'm not in a position to rush out and buy a replacement GPU now!

So, to anyone out there...is there a way of fixing this? Or am at all likely to get a replacement card? I'm not looking for a refund, just a fix for the noise. I've had it less than a week =/

Yours sadly,

Blair

Thank you for the link to your facebook page.

As we discussed and you'd like it replaced, give ASUS tech support a call and tell them the problem, they should set you up an RMA.

You can keep us updated on the RMA status and when you receive your replacement.

Hi again,

I phoned Asus and they told me that I needed to contact the retailer and request they deal with it on warranty grounds. Having spoken to an agent and detailed the problem he seemed to notice the fault on a list on his system. He said I can see why they sent you back here, or words to that effect. So...to be continued. If the retailer doesn't want to know, do I then go to Asus and request a repair? Could they repair it?

Thank you

The link doesn't work for me. It's best to determine if the coil whine is coming from the PSU or the graphics card. Is your system plugged into the wall directly or do you have a power surge protected power bar or UPS?

After you confirmed the coil whine is from the graphics card and if it's exceedingly loud, it should qualify for RMA replacement. If you encounter any issues with the RMA process, please send me a PM with the S/N and RMA# and I'll help follow up on it.

Sorry to hear about your coil whine, if you determine it is your card and not the PSU, you could RMA it for a replacement.. If you need help with this process, just PM me
