ROG Strix GTX 1070 8GB heat issue?

Hi,

I recently built a new machine, and have been having some MAJOR issues keeping the temps down....

At first, I thought it was the CPU as they are notorious for heat (i7-7700k) so I talked to Intel, and they agreed to send me a replacement, even though it passed all tests via their own diag software..

I got the new CPU, and there was still temp issues, so I decided to try an alternative CPU cooler - I chose the Alpenfohn Matterhorn (Black Edition)

Under load tests of the CPU, the CPU remains cool and stable...

but as soon as I load the GPU along side it, the temp rises, and eventually hits above 90c and throttles the CPU..

Now, I notice that if touch the side of my case near the GPU, it's VERY hot.... although the GPU temp is reported as 63c...

I believe, it's due to the fact that the fins on the heatsink are side to side (not front to back), so heat is being blasted straight out the side of the GPU, onto the glass panel of my case, heating it (and the inside of the case) up excessivlely.

There's barely any heat coming from the rear of the GPU - but lots comes from the side......

i7-7700k
G.Skill TridentZ RGB DDR4-3200
Asus Prime Z270-A
ROG Strix GTX 1070
Phanteks P400S (Tempered Glass)

- so, any ideas? i'm pretty much 100% sure it's the GPU causing the excessive heat, although the GPU it's self isn't faulty, I just believe it's a bad design....
i'll be testing it later with an older GPU...

The cpu is fine, I have monitored with HWiNFO64, Intels own "Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool" CPUz, and other such tools, and they all report the same...

the CPU goes from 0.97v @ 800mhz to 1.23v @ 4.45Ghz

I also tried manually setting voltage to the recommended stock voltages when I was talking with Intel about it, and it made no difference....

I have a Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX Tempered Glass case with the Strix 1070 OC and have not encountered this kind of temperature rise, but I'm also using a 5820k with an AIO and direct airflow from the front to the back. I admittedly also have not done much with both running at load at the same time. Ghost Recon will push my CPU to 40-50% load while the GPU is near 100%, but temps stayed fine. I know this isn't a direct comparison as the CPU's are different, but something is definitely off from what's being described.

Yeah,

and I doubt it's the CPU, as it's been replaced by Intel....

try running Unigene Heaven benchmark or something, and put your hand on the side of the case where the GPU vents directly onto, it will feel quite hot to the touch (mine got too hot to touch the other day)

the Anthoo Evo is a MUCH larger case though, so I wouldn't be surprised if you had no issues,
