ROG Strix 1080 Ti OC fans keep going on/off at 55c

Hi,

I just noticed that when my card is at 55c every other second the fans spin up, second later spin down, second later spin up etc..

This is when the card is around 55c and when it gets to 56 they spin up, then when back at 54 they spin down, keeps doing this evey other second.

Case is sitting next to me so this sounds really annoying, is there any way i can stop them drom spinning down or just make them not constantly spin up and down? Using the latest nvidia drivers.

Thanks!

Easy fix. Ditch gputweak and install MSI Afterburner and then set hysterisis to 5 secs or more.

I had this previously, I just opened GFE (GeforceExperience) went to drivers, and re-installed (choosing clean install) - this seemed to stop it, and I haven't had the issue again since 🙂

Toggle the 0dB button when in GPU Tweak. Although looks like you resorted to uninstalling it already

This works indeed, although i wish asus would let us turn the fan down to 25% like afterburner does (or even less), 900rpm sure sounds alot more quiet than 1300rpm when idle.

Will see in future nvidia driver updates if the problem goes away, done uninstalling and reinstalling drivers for now 😛

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

This is actually normal behavior for the defaults on the card. As suggested you can always find a work around if you want. Asus sets for silent operation by default that shuts the fans off at or below 55c.

My 980 never behaved like that, even though the treshold was at 60c, if it was close it wouldnt turn on and off every other second when it was 1 above or below it. Its too strict as it is now.

The Afterburner designer explains this real well. As the temp reaches 55, the fans kicks in, cooling the board below 55, which causes the fans to shut down. The board then heats up again past 55 and the fans kick it again repeating the whole process. Things stabilizes went board gets close to 60. The irony is that if your case has real good cooling, you'll see this happening more. Gputweak doesn't have hysterisis setting. Afterburner and EVGA precision has it.
