Poseidon 980Ti not compatible

I have just been made aware of a build mistake on my part. I have the Maximus VIII Extreme mother board and purchased the Poseidon Platinum GeForce GTX 980Ti. Unfortunately I now find that of the two Poseidon cards available I bought the one not compatible with the selected mother board. Naturally, I bought components and didn't conduct the build for moths later so am not able to return and exchange the graphics card. So not being experienced and computer savy I am looking for a way ahead. So some questions for the learned group here.
First, is there any way to find out if the this card might be made compatible by Asus in the future.
Has anyone any suggestions for me for a way ahead other than by buying the compatible Poseidon card .

I attempted to get back into BIOS to make the changes that you advised but several attempts to enter BIOS from POST failed. It would stay on the post page for a long time sometimes showing an error code such as 64, 98, 6F etc but would eventually boot into Win 10. After several attempts and suffering great frustration this morning I took it into the computer store from which I purchased the mother board and CPU for them to diagnose the problem. The technician had no problem entering BIOS from on board graphics, checked the pertinent settings therein and could see no immediate quick fix therein. Settings seemed appropriate and at quick glance the MB seemed to be working fine. Connected display via GPU with no display result. It will take him another day or two to check in greater depth, but the graphics card did not display for him. I will advise you of what the results are from his investigation as soon as I know. Everyone says this is a great system and should be outstanding for me. I agree, I just need it to work!

Update. Good news, it appears that the only defective part is me. It turns out that the PCIE power connectors for the Poseidon were not seated properly into the PSU itself. I had checked them, or so I thought, but did not do a thorough enough job of it. I have picked up the computer and will wait until tomorrow to plug it back in and get on with my setup of my flight simulation. Thank you all for your help and encouragement.
