Reason for your chat today: I have a strix gtx 970 and i bought the card for 4k gaming as the specs where stated in the sale on newegg and on the box. When the card tries to go beyond 3.526 mhz vram the gameplay suffers greatly stuttering and frame rate drops. I understand they are getting drivers works on to help smooth it out but a driver with not fix a hardware problem. This i also know is not your fault but the whole reason i bought this card where those stats and ive been lied to.

Hello joshua b weldy, thank you for contacting ASUS support. Please give me a few moments to review your information. I will be with you shortly.
Hi Joshua, How can I assist you today ?

joshua b weldy 07:08:44 pm

Well first off nice to meet you
and secondly i have questions about the performance of my strix gtx 970

Kyle B. 07:09:28 pm

Thank you Joshua. I’ll be more than happy to assist you.

joshua b weldy 07:09:33 pm

ok
Well Ive have no malfunctions per say but it doesnt not perform to the specs listen on the box and in the newegg ad. I bought this card to game at 4k and when on high to max settinngs this card will not go over 3.526 vram now i know maybe the game isnt using it all so i ran tests and never will it go over that. so i looked up a way to fix it. now to my surprise the card is working fine its just the way nvdia made it. Now why am i contacting you? Well i bought his card for as is stated for 4k gaming and with the sats ion newegg, your website, and nvdia it says its fine but when i max games in 4k i get a serious micro stutter and some times tearing which i know could be other things...Obviously by my prior statements im not an idiot and ive ran tests and guess what the card and my pc are 100% great except the falseness of the specs on the card.

Kyle B. 07:16:02 pm

Please accept my deepest apology for the inconvenience this has caused you.
I am sorry. Please allow me to do some additional checks for you. Can you give me a few moments?

joshua b weldy 07:28:55 pm

It has nothing to do with the motherboard but yeah sure its one yours asus z97-k

Kyle B. 07:29:12 pm

If your motherboard is not suported with 4k gaming, you can get the struggle while playing 4K games.

Kyle B. 07:43:21 pm

I am very sorry Joshua. Ther is no option to tranfer this chat to our manager.
Please check this graphic card with compatible motherboard. If the problem still persists, we can process the RMA for your prodcut.

joshua b weldy 07:45:07 pm

i have checked this card with other motherboards you idiot
it is not a motherboard issue as ive stated
its the cards hardware

Kyle B. 07:45:35 pm

If it is possible, please check joshua.

joshua b weldy 07:45:37 pm

nvidia even said

I know this is not your fault

Kyle B. 07:46:57 pm

I am sorry Joshua, I am not denying to help you. I’ll be more than happy to assist you.

joshua b weldy 07:48:28 pm

i promise you Kyle my pc is in 100% working order is compatible with the motherboard as you have said it hasnt and i know for a fact that the card can not use more than 3.6 gb of vram as sated by nvidia today.
That sir is false advertising

Kyle B. 07:49:06 pm

Joshua, outside of work I’m a consumer too, so I understand what you’re saying.
Please accept my deepest apology for the inconvenience this has caused you.

joshua b weldy 07:51:08 pm

So what can i do beside rma a working false marketed card?
I bought the card for the stats stated and it does not performe to those standards.

Kyle B. 07:53:12 pm

May I know the date of purchase Joshua ?

joshua b weldy 07:56:11 pm

11/06/2014

Kyle B. 07:57:25 pm

Thanks Joshua. Please try to update the BIOS for your motherboard to test whether you are having the same issue.

joshua b weldy 07:57:45 pm

...really guy

Kyle B. 08:00:49 pm

Please try to update the bios Joshua.

joshua b weldy 08:01:25 pm

I ALREADY HAVE!

Kyle B. 08:03:09 pm

Joshua, May I know the bios version of your motherboard ?

joshua b weldy 08:05:02 pm

Z97-K BIOS 2401

Kyle B. 08:08:42 pm

Good Joshua. Please try the graphic ard with compatible motherboard. I fyou are having the same issue, we can process the RMA for your product.

joshua b weldy 08:09:21 pm

I already have done this how do you think i came to this conclusion?
if i rma how fast would i get my money back seeming how the card was sold with false advertising.

Kyle B. 08:10:59 pm

I am sorry Joshua, we are not able to process the RMA with this issue.
I am very sorry Josua, there is no option to get the money back.

joshua b weldy 08:12:07 pm

then what can i do seem how you guys sold me a card with the wrong specs
do i have to get the law involved?
Also if you are a consumer you would know that Nvdia issued a statement claiming fault in design.

Kyle B. 08:13:39 pm

I understand your concern Joshua, Please try to change the monitor screen resolution to test.
Also please try to change the max refresh rate in the Nvdia control panel settings and check.

joshua b weldy 08:18:08 pm

Like i said why would i want a lower resolution when i bought your card it states on the box 4gbs of vram i only have 3.5 usable nvdia claimed today fault in design. I want to play at 4k not 1440p or 1080p now i will get the law involved for me and many of the others who bought these card under the perception of it having 4GB of usable memory not 3.5 and no its not my pc or anyone elses its the design of the card AS THE STATEMENT BY NVDIA in the link u sent you.

Kyle B. 08:19:31 pm

Graphic card is not able to utilize the full 4gb. It will need some size of memory to run it.

joshua b weldy 08:20:14 pm

what? was that English?

Kyle B. 08:27:24 pm

I am sorry Joshua. Please understand the issue. If your graphic card is compatible with your motherboard , we can come to conclusion that your graphic card is not working properly and process RMA.

joshua b weldy 08:28:36 pm

THe BOX LIED how is that my fault as a consumer?
I paid for something im not getting?
but your refusing to rerspond to the questions im posing repeating yourself to a useless already approached idea.

Kyle B. 08:33:28 pm

I understand your frustration. You have to check the compatibilty before purchasing the graphic card for your motherboard.

joshua b weldy 08:33:43 pm

THATS NOT THE PROBLEM
Kyle p isnt your real name is it
Sir the compatibility of Card and motherboard arent the issue

Kyle B. 08:35:51 pm

Joshua, please understand. That is the big problem. You need to check the compatability then only it will work with the motherboard as mentioned in the specification.

joshua b weldy 08:36:21 pm

you sir are not getting the point
the graphics card itself is incapable of reaching the specs promised on the box and on your website. NVDIA themselves have issued a statement stating this and once again i will get lawyer if i have to.

Kyle B. 08:41:04 pm

Please accept my sincere apology for any inconvenience this may have caused you. The promised specification may be reached with the compatilbe motherboard.

joshua b weldy 08:41:43 pm

SIr now you have lied
The gtx 970 is incapable of reaching more than 3.5gb of vram
NVDIA has issued a statement saying so
i have made a copy of this conversation and will send it to the right people
https://www.change.org/p/nvidia-refund-for-gtx-970?recruiter=170999399&utm_campaign=signature_receip...
?

Kyle B. 08:49:12 pm

Okay Joshua. As you mentioned, gtx 970 is incapable of reaching more than 3.5gb of vram.

joshua b weldy 08:49:38 pm

its on the box as 4gb i know
thats the point of this

ID just really like to know how my motherboard had anything to do with this seriously. And as for courtesy where was ours when you guys tested these cards and saw these issues but decided to push them out anyways knowing full well most of us are going to see the stats and the price and jump. Well those stats lied and most of us are just finding this out for ourselves after buying your on 11/7/2014 and going to the web to find out whats wrong then we see this and OH BINGO makes sense. What ever happened to honor and respect i love your company but this is just shady show some respect for the people who pay you.

I would like to return my strix 970s for strix 980s. I purchased and have registered 2 strix 970's, asus 97-a mobo and a ROG SWIFT in anticipation of gaming @ 1440p and I feel that I have been misled as to what the 970 was capable of.

Return the cards and pay the difference if you want the performance of the 980s.

stores just cannot all do that without mention from in this case ASUS manufacturer, once more i know NV screwed about everyone buy they are only the chip design, don't make the goods and that's on ASUS

ASUS doesn't actually make the goods.

They do some custom work, but as Marshall stated, for ****'s sake it's a silicon level problem, ASUS can't fix it for you, only Nvidia can. I suppose this is the risk you run when you buy computer components just barely after they've been released and the public hasn't had a chance to properly test them yet.

Harassing the Asus tech team is just wasting everyone's time. Custom building a PC is just like custom building anything else, if you don't understand that then it's your own fault. Updating all drivers could very well have to do with some issues (as well as compatibility) considering there are some people hitting 4gb on single and SLI setup's without issue. People are getting tunnel vision and misunderstanding official statements, just because the card didn't have a big label saying it has a memory issue doesn't mean it was not advertised right. Case and point is it is still being advertised the same! I fully expect to see nVidia release software to fix the problem all together. If you write-off Asus for this problem the only person your hurting is yourself.

You may know more about tech specs or be better educated from forums but that doesn't mean you know someone's job better then them, let alone give you the right to harass them for is ***hole. The guy has guidelines he has to follow. Luckily for you, you didn't come to my shop with that attitude or I would of made that conversation much, much, much shorter kid.

First off we didnt have the full info on these cards at release and have been experiencing problems for the last three months running tests and We def understood what we were buying and the reason we are mad is we are not experiencing what was sold and promised in reviews performance tests and as marketed.

If you sold me card knowing full well of the specs and i came to your shop showing facts and released documents stating that it didnt perform to promised specs and heres a lil information we held back and you tried to give me an attitude sir the conversation would have gone a lot different for you than for the tech that obviously doesn't know computers just has a tree of options to click from. I didnot harass the tech if you would have read that you would see i was respectful until he kept insinuating my mother board and bios where the problem. Second of all software will not fix the hardware problem you dope. The second 512 mbs of cash are slower and the original 3.5 gb is also slower than the 224 gb/s originally offered its actually runs at 192bg/s also the rops and the l2 cache were wrong then we get blamed for buying something off of stats provided. You sir are about as useless as the tech if you cant do your own research and tests which i have im no forum hero or anything you claim. I actually ran tests.

From what I've read on OCN and Tom's and a couple misc threads is some people are experiencing game breaking FPS after 3.5-3.6gb use. And some people are not. Different real world test are resulting is different problems, so you can't say that drivers/compatibility/and software are a non-issue. If you look at the billion long thread at OCN ton's of GTX970 guys are running full 4gb in games without issue, and some are dropping down to 4fps after 3.5-3.6. The tech was respectfully trying to help you and you told him you know more about his job and even went on to call him an idiot.

nVidia is clearly trying to make right on the situation, being a **** to someone whom has no control over it it pretty petty, witch is obviously what you are. Optimization of the hardware will fix the bigest problem most people are having technically. You might have better luck communicating with people if you spoke with a little respect, and proof read your messages because you just come off sounding like more of a issue then the marketing mistake it'self. This isn't the first or last time reviewers and marketing teams have made slight overlooks, go harass a nVidia rep.

or return your 'gimped un-usable' card and laugh your way all the whole way down the passed up on a good piece of tech because your butt hurt rd... sir 😛

Never said it wasnt a good card nor am i butt hurt nor is this a slight over look. I love the gtx 970 and honestly the only problem ive had with it is games that do require more than 3.5gb of vram. I also called him an idiot because i do HIS job for a living not for asus but a company like it and i know exactly what they are supposed to know and how they are supposed to proceed with a claim or question. GRanted i could have used a cleaner mouth i chalk that up to bad manners and i was just frustrated as you can tell. I just want what i paid for I would have never bought the 970 with the stats i have right now and the new specs provided which in gpuz states the false rops and l2 cache as well so the information about the ROPS and L2CACHE is relativity a surprise.
