Is a 1000w PSU ready for 5090?

Just wondering if a 1000w power supply will be more than enough to power the latest CPU and GPU combo?

9950x3d + 5090rtx?

9800x3d + 5090rtx?

Or is it time to start think 1200w power supplies!

Hi @VoodooGTS

Might be too early to say, however, if the power efficiency curve on Ampere is anything to go by, then peak power draw will be fairly edge case. Moreover, 9800/9950 X3D do not pull significant current.

Hello VoodooGTS

1200w should be good, you could even go up to a 1600w if you wanted. I use a 1600w psu with the ROG Strix 3090 Ti.

Something else to consider is the efficiency rating. A Titanium rated psu will save you money in the long run as these are the most efficient power supplies.
