ASUS UEFI vBIOS tool for GTX 600 series cards! It's Here!

Hi Everyone,

Here is the tool link. Please search for your model from the list and then click on BIOS.

This bit is critical:
* You will be UNABLE to flash back to the original legacy-only BIOS. HOWEVER, the new GOP UEFI BIOS is actually a Hybrid BIOS. It includes the legacy one as well as the UEFI one. But...
* We are only able to qualify its use ASUS motherboards: that includes those with UEFI BIOS' and those with older legacy BIOS' (we've checked on boards up to ~4 years ago). Other motherboards might work with our UEFI graphics cards but we cannot officially endorse compatibility as we don't have access to all BIOS and board revisions. The software checks if your motherboard is compatible.
* (If you intend to sell-on your card to fund a future upgrade, since you can't flash back, remember this decision affects the next person you sell to)

FAQ:

Do you need this GOP UEFI update?
If you want to use Win 8 Fast Boot, then yet, otherwise no. Do not upgrade if you don't need to. (If it works, don't fix it )

What factors do you need to get Win 8 Fast Boot running?
Only these motherboards listed below support Win 8 Fast Boot, due to a major, ground-up re-write to make the UEFI spec compatible with the Win function (this doesn't just affect ASUS motherboards FYI).

- All Intel 7 Series
- Upcoming Intel 8 Series
- Intel X79 Series updated to Win8 BIOS (3xxx)
- Intel H61 Series R2.0 or later
- All AMD R2.0 Series or later

THE SOFTWARE WILL CHECK IF YOUR BOARD IS COMPATIBLE.

Despite others being 'UEFI' boards (P67, Z68 etc) they are not compatible with Win 8 Fast Boot even after you update to GOP UEFI on your graphics card.

So, it's a Hybrid BIOS? Does that mean if I plan to upgrade my motherboard and OS to Win 8 later I can still update my GPU BIOS now?
As long as you own an ASUS board, sure. Upgrading the GPU now in preparation will still allow it to fall-back to legacy mode on your ASUS motherboard for the time being. You should see no change in the way it functions or performs. We still encourage the 'if it's not broke, don't fix it' though.

You will need:

Windows 8
UEFI compatible motherboard
GTX 600 or Radeon 7000 series graphics card
NOT OVERCLOCKED SYSTEM - DON'T RISK IT! Take normal BIOS flashing precautions.
If you run an CrossFire/SLI system, our advise is that you install 1 card at a time for this process.

Thanks for your patience everyone!

Hey,

I don't mean to be unthankful or anything, but... why do you ASUS guys seem to feel a constant urge for overcomplicating stuff that much? Why don't you just provide us with the .rom-files we need for nvflash instead of having to rely on your half-baked frontend for it?
Seriously, why doesn't "ASUS UEFI" work on multi graphics cards setups when nvflash does?

As a matter of fact I can't just pop out one of my GTX 690s to upgrade one BIOS after the other.

Please just drop that entire "ASUS UEFI" project and release the .rom-files...

Hi Yesterday 24/6/2013 I bought a GTX660-DC20-2GD5 to go with my Z77 Sabertooth UEFI motherboard, as I was using GOP perfectly well with the o/b HD4000 graphics, but wanted more power.

I researched the Asus site and it all seemed fine, my board is compatible and they had an UEFI BIOS for the card I decided I wanted. But what a farce, I have this error where the board checks out OK, but it cannot download the BIOS and errors. I have even reloaded Windows8 all to no avail, the same error. I have also tried to contact Asus 24 hours ago but no reply. Any ideas from you guys would be really appreciated. I feel a prat for wasting all that money on something that does not work... Tks

Me too, I have the same vidcard with a Z87-A. The MB checks out ok but when it gets to the vidcard it just sits there saying "we are connecting to the server..." and if I click ok it gives me the "download vbios failure". Let me know if you hear anything from support, thx.

Will do. I am in contact with the local Asustek people here who have all the details, but so far no response from them. Just chased them up - I will let you know... BRgds.

My System:
Asus 660 TI Top Direct CU II: Bios GTX660 VB Ver 80.04.4B.00.AS06T
Mainboard Rampage IV Extreme Bios 4102
Windows 8 Pro

Does that error only appear in my case or is there just no 660 Ti GOP Bios out there? 🙂

As I'd seen flashing my 670 DCU II for the GOP version, the Asus tool is very sensitive with the firmware detected on your card.
you should try to upgrade or downgrade it in order to make it correctly detected by the Asus tool.
Try to upgrade your Vbios with that one :

Then run again the Asus Tool.

Who do I have to contact to get the UEFI GOP BIOS rom for my GTX670-DC2OG-2GD5? I know how to use nvflash and am aware of the risks. I need the UEFI BIOS in order to use some bootloaders, including the open-source Clover EFI bootloader. I am unable to use your tool because I do not have an Asus motherboard.
