Asus Strix GTX 1080 fans won't slow down

Hello
I got some issue with my new GTX1080 Strix. On idle fans are still which is good,
but when I start play some games, fans starts to spin with maximum speed.
But when I close game, fans are still spinning, I waited few hours but they dont slows down.
I check in MSI Afterburner and monitor shows that fans are 0% speed but
still they are very loud and in maximum speed. I tested on few drivers but nothing helps.
Only after reset they are again in still mode
Any suggestion? Is that driver failure?

I have the same issue.

So I actually had it before, fixed by repeated going through similar steps(flashing the bios, using ddu in safe mode, installing different driver versions) - eventually worked without the extra fans and without installing gpu tweak. Yesterday I changed my cpu cooler and decided to give the fans a go since they are just obstructing the airflow. The problem came back(with or without fans this time). I'm back to where I started. Anyone any advice?

Hey everyone - Had the same problem as everyone. At first glance, the card seems perfect - quiet and ready to rip into a game - but when you start a game up, it goes all the way up to 100% fan speed and won't slow down until a reboot is done. When you go into GPU Tweak 2 it shows that the fans are at 0% and when you manually try to adjust them, they don't read and stay at 100% (as if the software doesn't talk to the fans and the card does what it wants and goes into Leaf Blower Mode).

I've read everyone's possible fixes - I've used DDU to remove drivers and reinstall, I've taken the card out and reseated it, I've used MSI Afterburner and set the fans to auto and to startup that way - nothing worked. Lastly, I did the hardware, I took one of my case fans and plugged it into the back of the card of the 1080 - my case fan was a 3 pin whereas the 1080 has 2-4 pins, it doesn't matter since I plugged the 3 pin into the 4 pin - and VOILA, after restarting my system the card now reads the GPU Fan Speed and I'm able to control it with no need for MSI Afterburner (unless I want it for manual overclocking). I've played one game with the setup this way and I've had no issues.

This took me a few hours - I'm a little unhappy that I have to sacrifice a fan in my case but we'll see how this works. I hope ASUS fixes this!!!!!!!!!!! I really didn't want to use the FanConnect in the back.

Is the issue solved ? I mean I have the same issue but should I try this?

Following this thread and doing some of my own uninstalls/reinstalls, I found that running DDU, uninstalling GPUTweak2 and installing this version of the driver worked for me. The card doesn't spin up the fans to 100% and stay there any longer. In fact, it doesn't seem too eager to spin up the fans at all while playing CS:GO and the air coming out the back is on the cooler side of warm.

Maybe others here can give this a shot and confirm.

It's a good idea to run DDU and let it disable Windows Updates of the drivers so it doesn't inadvertently overwrite this.

Hello guys,

I just got mine last night and I run into the same issue, fans went crazy. It turns out, as I found on some reddit thread, that a cable was blocking one of the 3 fans and that caused all the trouble (fans not stopping, RPM not correctly reported).

Thanks,
George

Hello !
Just wanna say, that i've unistall MSI Afterburner, update motherboard drivers, opened Safe Mode, used DDU, download new GeForce Expirience and now everything works. 🙂

Sounds like the fans aren't reporting the tach feedback to the fan header. Double check that connection.*
