Hey.
Im having slight issue with my few day old 780 TI DCII OC card & want to ask if other users of this model been experiencing same thing. The problem is that cant seem to be able to adjust voltage at all. Default 3D/load voltage of the card is 1.175v, but example with asus gpu tweak when increase the volts +75 the load volts still remains at same 1.175v. Also tried with afterburner and evga precision x and result was same.
I had reference TI card before this and with that one i got volts from stock 1.16v to 1.21v. So now im wondering if this asus model is voltage locked or something?
Hi Joni, It sounds like your 780ti is like my 680's. While there is an option to adjust the voltage it really doesn't do anything. The voltage is automatically controlled by the temperature of the GPU. In precision X the max. voltage I can set it to is 1.150 volts but, as long as my cards stay below 70c the voltage is 1.175. When they get to 70c-75c the voltage drops automatically to 1.150 and the clock speed drops as well. There is nothing you can do about this, it is how they are designed to work. This will ensure your graphics card will not get over heated and damaged.
Temp limit is not the reason in my case, voltage just dont increase at all. Even when just starting game/program and temps are still well below 50 degrees it stays at max 1.175v.
It will stay at 1.175v as long as the GPU temp stays at 70c or below. I guess I should have said yes the GTX 780ti is voltage locked. NVidia did this to prevent too many RMA's.
Well thats not completely true as voltage isnt locked up to 1.21v, atleast not with nvidia reference model 🙂 Nvidia limited 780TI voltage on hardware level that you cant go above 1.21v, when with 780 non TI you could get up to 1.3v with custom bios versions.
As said in opening post i had reference 780Ti before this and with it could increase the voltage from stock 1.16 to 1.21v.
I found something you might want to read. I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for or not but scroll down to where it says "Unlocked GPU Core Voltage"
I found this and thought you might want to read this. It is the GTX 780ti but not the DCII OC. Scroll down to where it says "Unlocked GPU Core Voltage"
Just read reviews of this particular card and they were able to increase voltage in similar fashion as i did with reference card. So basicly question now is that if asus has actually changed something on this model after those press samples to lock the voltage.
That Joni, is what we need to find out, I don't know if Asus gave the option to unlock the voltage or not. The cards I have are the precision x brand and I know the voltage is not unlocked on them.
