so during heavy games the gpu starts blinking red.
in gpu tweak III all 12VHPWR connections are green.
What can be causing this?  im stressing out here...

Hi @arbh
Can you confirm what PSU you are using and whether you are using the supplied 8-pin adapter or a native 12VHPWR cable?

Hi!
i am using Asus Rog Strix 1200w with the following 12VHPWR cable.
It all started when i changed CPU from i5 14600KF to i9 14900K
last night i took out all cables from psu and gpu , then airblowed and checked plugs before plugging back in.
it seems to have solved the problem.  still strange that power detector+ shows normal and gpu blinking red.
Will update in a couple of hours if the problem really is solved, just turned on after resetting cables

Hi @arbh

If the LED is flashing, it could be due to one of the following reasons:

  • Low 12V Voltage (below 10.8V):
This can be caused by aged wiring or poor/loose contact points.

  • Issue with 12+4 pin power connector:

    • Excess current: A single pin exceeds the maximum current limit (9.2A), indicating an imbalance.

    • Contact failure: A pin has poor/no contact or shows signs of abnormal melting.

I'm getting similar strange behavior on my new Astral 5080. GPUTweak keeps notifying me via popup "ALERT! Power Detector+ reports one or more 12VHPWR pins exceeds 9.2 amps or is at 0 amps. Please check thiscable [sic] now to avoid potential risks."

The first time I saw this, the sensor seems to have gotten all 6 "stuck" at 22A somehow, and installation sensors were crazy-said my GPU was at 35 degrees on the z axis and similar crazy numbers on the other two. This wouldn't go away until I completely powered down my computer and turned off the power supply - even a normal shutdown wouldn't clear it, nor would uninstalling and re-installing GPU Tweak 3.

Cables were completely and fully seated. I am using a 90-degree native Seasonic "12v 2x6" cable, connected to a Seasonic Prime ATX3.0 PX-1600. At no times did the cables feel hot at all at any connection point.

Once I powered off (switch on the back of the P/S to completely cut all power), the GPU sensed power correctly and operated without warning the rest of the evening.

Now, today (after resuming from sleep), I'm getting the same alert, but this time I'm seeing ALL of my power pins drop to 0A every few minutes for about 2-3 seconds, then come back up to normal .5A or so when just idling.

Loading a game makes the power dip less, but still happening occasionally.

Are we seeing issues with the sensors on the card? Or a GPU Tweak 3 issue?

To add to my previous post: It looks like the GPU Tweak III software itself is having polling issues with the card.  I turned off "Popup notifications" at least, but I keep seeing the "Amperage" alert on the 12VHPWR light switch to red, showing ALL connectors are at 0amps, not alerting me to when it's showing unbalanced amperage. Whenever it does this, I show 0C on all memory temps as well, though the GPU temps still show up.

When it's not flashing red every few seconds/at 0C, everything reads normally - 46-49 degrees at minimal usage with .44-.46 amps, with 4.5-4.7 amps and 65-71 degrees when running TimeSpy.

I'm not seeing any of this behaviour on mine. Do you have anything else open, polling the system/GPU?

Corsair iCue with the ASUS plugin, as well as the older version of Aura Sync. Uninstalled that older version and the plugin and it's now showing stable readings, but I'm really irritated that I can't change my colors on my single ASUS device without installing a gigabyte of bloat that wants to interfere with everything else.

Hi, I have almost exactly the same issue as the OP, except my card is the air-cooled model and it also happens when the card is just idle. The red LED next to the 12V connector will flash for a few seconds and then turn off for a while, then start flashing again, etc.

This was happening before I installed any software like Armoury Crate etc., on a clean Windows 11 install.

After installing GPU Tweak I could see that the power connector is sometimes reporting a high load on ALL pins, sometimes reading over 20A on all the pins just while being idle, which should be impossible. This happens while the LED is flashing and when the LED is off, all pins are showing green again.

Power supply is a new ASUS Strix 1200 W Platinum and I’m using the 12V cable that came with it. I tried disconnecting the purple IVS connector on the PSU, but this didn’t change anything.

Other than that the card is functioning normally, so it is more of a nuisance, but still like to get it resolved.

Hi @kybdf2

See above post for LED behaviour
