What case are you using? When air cooling the Poseidon GTX 980Ti, airflow inside your case and your ambient temperature play a huge role in the temperatures.

Yes, people forget that...
Temps are normal, I can bet if you open side panel they will drop for at least 5C.
Don't even to talk about nice custom fan profile. I keep usually on manual 70% because constant air hum irritate me less than constant change.
Now you see why ASUS didn't overclock Poseidon as Strix and Matrix.
Because some people still keep on Air and with two fans and not active water block can't be better.
Best option if you bought Poseidon and if you decide him is to invest in
EKWB Predator 240 or 360 depend of case and to cooldown CPU and GPU in little custom loop.
Both of them will work but with Predator 360 temps will be better and you can overclock. 240 is only to keep on default and to prevent overheating
fans on graphic card will help as well.
That's excellent idea and one of best options at the moment on market for people who can't afford expensive loops but want easy to cross on watercooling. If not you could bought Strix with higher clock and triple fan.
EKWB Predator 360, 980Ti Poseidon and Maximus VIII Formula are full watercooling.
And still everything under warranty. Only need tubes, fittings and water.
Edit: Try please this test I tell you...
Fan speed on 70-80% manual, depend how much you can tolerate(you need little to hear fan, that's 250W beast and can't be silent completely on air) remove side panel and open GPU-Z Sensor area, after 1h of gaming check highest temps.

the case I have is the Phanteks Evlolv atx with 2 140mm fans at the front 1 140 at the back and 3 120s up top, so I think there is planty of airflow.

Temps of your cards are fine and will be much lower with liquid cooling.
People who say that 250W graphic card work on 70C in graphically demanding games lie, or didn't tried real game long enough to make better conclusion. Their temps are usually 75-85C. That's normal operational temp of GPU on air.

Now you are much calmer? 😄
Don't afraid temps are fine you should install liquid cooling and enjoy in silence.
1300-1500 RPM on 120mm radiator fans is much more acceptable than fan on graphic card.
