1080 ti and i5 processors

Hi, i been reading this stuff in some forums that an i5 processor would bottleneck 1080ti. Meaning the gpu would not perform at it's maximum level if you use it with i5. Do you think this might be the case or just false info? I have i56600k@4.5ghz myself and i have been thinking about getting 1080ti, but when i read these comments i don't know. They saying i7 would be ideal.

So does anyone here think i56600k would bottleneck 1080ti?

Edit: using Asus rog 279q monitor, 1440p 144hz.

The easiest way to check it out is to go to the 3DMark results and look for your CPU and a single 1080Ti results...
Then change your CPU to an i7 in search and check the results again...

Firestrike measures also cpu physics so ofcourse i7 versions win. But what i checked, graphics score seems same as with i5. Best scores with i76700k were like 23000 with i5 21000, the difference was because of physics.

In certain titles you should expect bottlenecks even with an OC'd chip.

Short answer...NO

At 1080p that might be true but we're talking maybe.... sometimes...in some games at some settings....reducing framerate from 160s to 110 for example (made up figures just to illustrate) maybe sometimes important if you want to max a 144Hz monitor or something like this...if you game at 60fps for example you'll never notice...at 1440p and 4K you'll likely never see this since the GPU will be limiting...

It does depend on the target resolution and frame rate, so a little more information is needed

Yes i play on Asus rog 279q monitor, 1440p 144hz.

It can be subjective based on the games you play, but there will be instances where the CPU will bottleneck you, yes. Battlefield 1 with 64 players can be quite taxing on the CPU if going by an example. Equally, there will be plenty where it won't. 1440p when pushing AA/post processing you will still be largely GPU bound.

Bottom line, if you go the no-compromise approach the i7 is the obvious choice on that platform, but given you have G-Sync the end result/benefit probably isn't worth you changing at this point.

I say go for it. 🙂

The 6600k won't bottleneck a 1080 TI, the new kabylake cpu's are a skylake refresh and all you're gaining is clock speed.

Overclock your 6600k and you basically have a 7600k.

The 1080 Ti is a good choice for a 1440p 144Hz monitor and with maximum game settings you still probably won't reach 144 FPS in most newer games except for DOOM 4.

The question is do i really need an upgrade, gigabyte 980ti runs pretty well all titles so far..always over 60fps. And then there is gsync. Well, have to see maybe i will upgrade at some point when best models of 1080ti come around since i have 144hz monitor.
