Z890 Maximus Hero random micro freezes

Hi,

I’m using a Z890 Maximus Hero motherboard with the following setup:

  • Intel Ultra 9 285k (stock settings)
  • Corsair Vengeance 2x16GB DDR5 6400MHz (CMK32GX5M2B6400Z32, running on XMP profile)
  • Samsung 990 PRO NVMe M.2 2280 2TB SSD
  • Asus ROG STRIX RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB GDDR6X OC Edition
  • Corsair RM1000x 1000W Gold
  • Windows 10 Pro

I’ve ensured that the BIOS, drivers, and Windows updates are all up to date.

However, I’m experiencing occasional random freezes that last a few seconds before the system resumes normal operation.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue and found a solution?

Thanks!

I have an Asus Maximus Z890 Extreme. I had similar freezing and momentary disconnection of USB ports, to which I have a dozen or so devices permanently connected. There were no BSODs or system hangs. My power supply is a Seasonic Prime Titanum Ultra 850W. I had to buy an additional third PSU 8Pin -> PCI-EX 8pin cable. The problem has ceased to exist for now. If you do not have three PSU -> Motherboard 8 Pin cables powered on your board - do it. If you have three 8-pin cables connected - think again.

Blessed are those who have not seen ... And now they see.

Possible migration to Win 11 24H2, because the system works flawlessly for me with the latest bios and Windows 11 24H2 December Edition. This is a recently released motherboard, you should also consider adapting to the latest Microsoft system, not to Windows 10

I haven't seen any "micro freezes" on my board.

Using Windows 10, there are some drivers missing from the support site, such as Wireless, Audio, and Thunderbolt.

I am guessing the Neural processor will not function, but not sure.

You might try, putting the command below in a run box and execute.  Check the graph and see if it shows any repeating problems.

The 3rd power connector was indeed not connected! I connected it and so far looks good, but I'll give it a few days of testing just to be sure and will post an update, thanks a lot for the heads up!

If anyone else has encountered this issue please reply as well 🙂

I'm using Strix z890-f and having similar issues. Random freeze for usb devices (mouse/keyboard) for few seconds. I don't have any 3rd 8-pin connector on my board.

Just had another really small freeze but I suspect it's because a faulty USB Hub I'm using (it was misdetected on the device manager), so I stopped using it.

Also a BIOS update was just released and I updated the BIOS.

@sohanzaman

What is your CPU? RAM? PSU? OS? updated all drivers and installed latest BIOS?

I used both wired & wireless mouse, tired different USB ports, power management like High performance, Turbo, Power saving. I encounter this issue on any mode, any device. Armoury Crate shows every drivers are up to date. Running Win 11 23H2.

It's a new build. Having those random micro freezes since beginning. Update BIOS about a couple of weeks ago, still see this issue at random times (not more than 2-3 times per day). My config:

Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
Rog Strix z890-F Gaming Wifi (Bios ver: 1101)
Ram: Team T-Force delta 7000Mhz 16GB x 2 (XMP enabled)
Psu: ASUS TUF Gaming 1200G 1200W 80 Plus Gold

Edit: Just noticed BIOS update 1203 was released few days ago. I'll try the update before next weekend & share updates here.

A brief micro freeze just occurred, but its frequency has significantly decreased overall.

I'll try to disable CPU C-States and report back with any news, others - please continue to report if you encounter the same issue as well.

@sohanzaman Please let us know if the BIOS update helped you.

Not getting the micro freeze anymore after bios update, at least so far. I think it stopped for me from 1101 bios update. I just updated to that version a couple of days before I posted my last reply here.
