Asus Hero Bios 1302

Intel 285k

Corsair 64gb 6400Mhz

M.2_5> 990 Pro 2TB

m.2_6> 999 Pro 4TB

RTx Strix 4090

The GPU is running at x8 instead of x16 with no Nvme in slots 1-4, running out of ideas, any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Same issue as myself since launch with the Hero and the MSI 4070 Super will be keeping an eye on this.

Same problem too with same specs intel 285k and 4090 strix, the gpu run at 8x4 even with no ssd installed.

updating bios to 1302 did not help also re-seat components so two options left gpu or motherboard issue.

couple of people wrote about this issue recently here already so maybe thats motherboard issue since my gpu is new and i hardly believe the gpu is faulty games runs fine no crashes or any problem, but we lost some performance because of that pcie 8x4 issue... hope asus will at least investigate this since the report of same cases happened with the z890 Hero board.

RTX 4090 shows X16 in Asus H770 D4, working properly.

Cpu has been reseated and tested with Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and it PASSED, Clearly something is going on here with either Bios or Motherboard I have contacted Asus Client support and case has been escalated.

Keep us updated on this i got a feeling there is a bug with the mobo or bios at this point with some cards.

UPDATE:  Cleared CMOS, F5 Loaded setup defaults, reflashed 1302, tried with only 1 nvme in M2_5, than tried with with no nvme, than tried with 1 Sata 860 EVO>>no changes still stays at X8. However when comparing to Asus Z590-E under <Advanced\System Agent (SA) Configuration\Graphics Configuration> the Z890 is missing PEG and PCIE.

same as mine, no PEG or PCIE options, only CPU graphics.

tried to change the PCIE bifurcation speed in bios (advanced->onboard->the first setting) and force it to run at 16x and it do nothing, same 8x4 speed...

I can confirm I've done basically the same as yourself even changed the CMOS battery I do think this could be a compatibility issue when they updated the GOP and added new features for the iGPU
