Hi everyone,
I’m running into an issue with my ROG Maximus Z890 Hero motherboard after updating to BIOS version 1203. My CPU is an Ultra Core i9-285K, and I’m using 2x48GB Corsair 6400MHz CL32 DIMMs (CMP96GX5M2B6400CL32).
Previously, on BIOS version 1101, I was able to enable XMP without any stability problems. However, since installing BIOS 1203, I can no longer activate XMP without running into errors. The system either hangs at Q-Code 61 or crashes shortly after the POST. If I disable XMP, the system appears stable and boots into Windows without issues.
I have tried reverting back to BIOS 1101, and as expected, I can enable XMP again and everything works fine. Has anyone else encountered this problem after updating to BIOS 1203?
Thanks in advance!

My ram is not on the approved list for my motherboard. I am using CMK ram and the only approved ram at 6800 is Corsair CMT ram and the Z690 Asus board I have also has ram that is not approved by never had any issues using and of the XMP profiles. I also waited 1yr before upgrading do to the fact you could not find ram or CPU's at the time during the supply chain issues after Covid. Now I have replaced my Z390 board with the Z690 board and replaced the Z690 with the Z890 board. All boards are the extreme Asus boards.

Hello back again, try using dimfit option in the bios. It's for memory that is not working or unstable.

I feel like I might as well wait for the next promised bios update for Jan.

I read that ASUS came out with the new update ahead of the January update and wonder if 1203 was the update for January. Sure hope not. I tried using the Dimfit settings and nothing worked and defaulted back to the settings I found that did work using a speed of 6200 on ram that should be working at 6800 speed. It is a new motherboard so they should work all this out in the next update or few updates and cam take up to 6 months to work all the issues out. All we can do now is wait for a stable bios.

This has been resolved for me. I updated the Bios to 1302 from 1203 and was able to overclock the CPU using the extreme setting, advanced OC settings instead of the default settings, and the XMP Tweaked profile with no issues. The only issue I found was while playing the new Indiana Jones The Great Circle would crash while playing which started using the 1203 Bios and the fix for it was to use INTEL EXTREME TUNING UTILITY. to set the Performance Tuning Ratio below 5Ghz. I set it to 49x instead of 54x and that issue was resolved.

I also am using the bios 1203 with intel Extreme tuning. I am running corsair ddr5 8000 48g at 8400 using dimm fit. Great temps no issues in gaming. Super stable.

Also I used xmp II when I ran dimm fit.

This is why i switched to the Z890 Unify-X. Every single bios update has been an absolute nightmare for memory stability. I have the z890 Hero, a 265k and 285k, and 7 different memory kits with speeds at 6400, 6600, 6800, 7000, 8000, 8200, and cudimm 8400. I've been testing them on each bios update and stability has been all over the place. Some working great on one update and not working at all on the next update. Major issues with CAS latency too. I was running 8000 CL36 last bios, it was stable but XMP at 8000 CL40 was not. Extremely odd and frustrating.

I am using XMP 2 corsair ddr5 8000 Dominator memory set to 8400 used dimm fit. Then tested memtest86 passed. Runs all my games no issues super stable

I also just updated the bios but it still won't run on XMP 1 or 2 for my RAM. I have to go on XMP 2 and reduce the speed AND have Dimm Flex for it to run.
