All of my builds along with friends have been ROG for years. My latest will be this motherboard with an Ultra 9 285k CPU.
I have read about some issues with various memory speeds or brands not running at the right speeds or level. And even boot issues. And of course there will be a microcode update soon which may impact this. Just curious what a reasonable speed would be to shoot for to maximize compatability.
Rig will be used for a mix of gaming and creative (Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop).
I will probably wait for the CPU update before buying but just planning.
Thanks,

I suppose the first thing for you to check is the recommended list on the support site.
The one I have, which is working with XMP II, is not one of those DU Dimms. I have not done any performance testing. (2x32 GB)

Rather, for stability, you should use:
• Asus Maximus Z890 Apex.
• F5-6400J3239F48GX2-TR5S
I have this DDR5 kit with Z890 Extreme Maximus. It works stably with every BIOS released so far. Apex, on the other hand, is equipped with everything you need for your purposes. It supports dual-channel DRR-5 up to 96 GB, which will certainly be enough for 5-8 years. It has all the necessary state-of-the-art interfaces. In my opinion, a motherboard designed to break OC records guarantees even better stability than Hero.

Thanks! Yes, Apex is a beast. Have been looking at both.
Is this the 32GB version of that kit? CL32, Z5?
This may not be true with the new MB architecture but can't 64gb or 96gb slow some things down?
F5-6400J3239G16GX2-TZ5RK
F5-6400J3239G16GA2-TZ5RK
Apparently X2 vs A2 is just who is selling it?
Great to hear of your success with it.
I am still holding off in the CPU and MB purchase until I see how this January Intel update pans out. Seems like some bios and windows updates have helped so far.
Thanks!

Unfortunately not.
The DDR5 version I currently have is X2 with the designation:
F5-6400J3239F48GX2-TR5S (silver version).
I bought these leaves on December 2nd at Newegg for $350 and they are currently available there for that price.
In Poland they are available at morele.net for $430
The European Union does not spoil us.
I put the set together about two weeks ago.
At the moment I think that a much cheaper Asus Maximus z890 Apex + 285K motherboard + these Trident Z Royal 2x48GB DDR memory would probably be a better choice.
I migrated from Asus Rampage VI Encore.
From what I managed to find out earlier, the best choice for this Z890 platform is a 2x24GB or 2x48GB set. The processor only supports dual DDR channel.
That's why I bought the largest RAM capacity, because I'm planning another upgrade in 5-6 years.
Unfortunately, I don't know how USB4/Thunderbolt support looks like on Apex in practice. Apex also has triple 8-pin power supply, like Hero and Extreme. The Strix series doesn't have it. Women's intuition suggests that Apex would be the most reasonable choice. After all, it currently has an OC record, which translates into stability.
My Asus Z890 Extreme works flawlessly with the latest BIOS 1203 and these memories. The platform reminds me a lot of my old HEDT in terms of functionality.
I don't use PC for games and OC
First of all, it feels stable.
Browsers, e-mail support and 3D landscape visualizations work great
