Make Future Motherboard Feature Suggestions Here!

xeromist
Moderator
Hi all,

ASUS ROG is requesting our best suggestions for ROG product improvements. As a moderator I won’t have the ability to implement your suggestions but I will be picking some of the best to highlight for the ROG team so they know what matters to us, the community.

Some guidelines for this thread:
1) Keep it positive and constructive. In most of the forum I try to allow you all to express your thoughts freely (within reason). This thread has the express purpose of generating constructive suggestions so I will be moderating this thread and deleting posts that do not contribute to that goal.
2) Keep it concise and on topic. Some minor discussion regarding a specific suggestion is welcome but if you would like to have a longer conversation I ask you start an additional thread and link it in your post here. You can also request a moderator move your posts if you have need.
3) Try for realistic ideas that appeal broadly to gamers. A small improvement on an existing ROG product is much more likely to get chosen than an entirely new product that only matters to a small number of people.
4) Support your favorites! You don’t have to come up with a suggestion to help. If you see something you like, quote it and say so! More support for an idea improves its chances.

EDIT:
I’ve updated the titles for these feedback threads to reflect that this is primarily for *future* products. Sorry for the lack of clarity. While there is a chance some ideas could be implemented via software updates it’s most likely any suggestions would be rolled into new products.
Also, these threads are not for issue reporting and such posts won’t reach the right people. Please post issues in the ROG Care > Hardware & Software Support section. Or contact ASUS support via phone or email for immediate assistance.

Please update the version of MemTest86 to something like v10.7.  There have been updates for memory and CPU detection, for one.

Eva-00 board. Key desire is blue and white themed. and I know you are likely to want to use a black PCB rebuild of a normal asus board but

PLEASE DONT

please use a white pcb for this product or even light blue. There are too many black PCB options out there. you have to go oem for a green pcb and forget about getting a zxxx chipset. I understand there is a desire to cut costs but a blue or white pcb for the possible upcomming REI eva merchandise feels like a must rather than a nice to have. I will certainly buy it (well not the case though, I have a better idea for the case.)

Polymo Lighting Customization. The polymo lighting effect on my Z790 Dark Hero is awesome, but it would be nice to customize it to say something like "Dark Hero" or literally anything other than "ROG"

ASUS crate needs to be scrapped and replaced

I won't buy another board made expensive by features that are then denied me because it needs software that just doesn't work. ASUS crate

It needs to be:

  • Highly robust
    • Must update.
    • Must update without loosing all my settings every time guaranteed. (Fans, lights). If you have to remap/convert/transform/approximate for version changes, then do this.
    • Must function fully without needing an account (saving for cloud backup) should have local backup features. (Cooling/Fans are crucial, these absolutely must function without an account.
    • Must remain fully functional without an update. Again, cooling is crucial, and I 'usually' don't have time to update 'NOW', when I just want to re-tune a fan. (I don't expect my cooling software, or any software writing to sensitive board parameters to 'ever' be beta, so this shouldn't be an issue.)
    • Think very carefully before making critical and high importance functions like cooling software and RGB software 'need' to have anything sitting between them and the 'Windows Installer'.
    • Think carefully before founding too much of your software on Node.js. (I hope your using TypeScript or some such). Node JS is great, but this software is almost as important as kernel level. Its more that just your run of the mill usermode.
    • Think carefully before rolling additional bloat ware such as games recommendations and marketing in with crucial software such as this. There is how software was intended to work vs how it end up in practice, i.e. Bugs are a real thing. If you marketing gubbins stops your cooling control software or even the RGB software from working that is immediately a major issue. You will need significant extra dev resources to meet the challenge, or you will fail. (as you are doing now)
    • (stop using scheduled tasks, these are fraught with complications regarding credentials. Start using a Windows Service Management managed service, auto started.)
    • BIOS 'Defaults' should not  engage in the practice opting to rootkit install ASUS software into the OS. By all means have this as an option for those that want. This isn't even a 'good' way to install 'any' kind of software ever. (never mind the security implications your placing on your selves if you are compromised or make a mistake with your signatures)
  • Must be secure (and robust)
    • again, cooling is crucial. refined, OS configurable fan profiles must function without having to logon with an admin, or provide elevated privileges.
    • (stop using scheduled tasks, these are fraught with complications regarding credentials. Start using a Windows Service Management managed service, auto started. Feel free to run under 'system' credentials)
    • Requiring elevated privileges to run software used to change or configure settings would be acceptable however. Perhaps even preferred.
    • BIOS 'Defaults' should only configure Windows Secure Boot software.
    • BIOS 'Defaults' should not  engage in the practice opting to rootkit install ASUS software into the OS. By all means have this as an option for those that want.

Beyond concerns with Crate, then Unless you deliver the above, in terms of bopard features, your going to need to:

  • add a diagnostic digital display to your more basic boards.

Because I'm not buying another ASUS ROG STRIX who's features (all my lights and fan config) I loose EVERY time an update is forced on me, and I then loose completely because it just won't work at all or reinstall. (yes, I've tried the cleaner tool. No I'm not logging a support ticket, I've already wasted too much time on this software, my patience has been over used already. If you got a named email for 3rd line dev support that will get on the phone with me that is all I'd consider. No I am certainly not reinstalling the OS. Yours is the only piece of software that has given me problems (numerous, varied and often) and doesn't work. [I work in software])

The ability to actually update our BIOS, particularly when important fixes to core hardware problems (intel 13/14th gen) are required would be pretty nice.

Having an industry standard level of support when something does go wrong would also be nice, but I guess ASUS has become used delivering a subpar experience for premium pricing.

Hello,

perhaps some separates memories zone that don't need to be updated with the new bios:

- separate memoy zone for CMO saves (and an alert when the new scheme differs from the previous one CMO save and will fail if re-loaded in the new structure)

- separate memory zone for FAN conf save, not to remake all every time

- and why not another one for all others parameters that remain identical from one conf to another (Some AHCI, SMU\CBS and PBS parameters).

- like said by some others, disable by default all "My Asus" and "AC" stuff in the bios.

- some more help strings to indicate best params related of the differents items plugged on the MB

- better audio components for high-end MB (not USB for virtualisation), all necessary sockets for every need.

- tpm connector for all MB.

- LED or Digit diag for all

- safe mode switch / bios enter switch / REAL clearcmos switch (or why not the Jumper !! how many cost it ?) on all MB

- better virtualisation support for the onboard MB components (sriov, pcie share, enumeration, cpu id,...) and documentation to correctly use them.

- little more discretion, all black or standard electronic green PCB, give away all the garlands

- more infos on the impact and the link between some fonctions in bios(Global C-States - DFCstates, PDM-MCR).

- M.2 slots for embeded Wifi and other little addons cards (said by someone if i remember)

- why not like the old MB if i remember (p55t2p4): slot for additionnal cache module, so we could upgrade L3 cache without upgrade CPU, useful for some applications or additionnal Ram register. For exemple,It could be very interresting if the 3DVcache could be mounted on another free slot, not mandatory for the base build, but an option if we want additionnal cache or not, 3D or standard, little or big, or VERY BIG  :-). (Perhaps StoreMI, GPUDirect storage  with ResizeBar and UMA Frame Buffer can be used like this, VRAM will make additionnal L3 cache or L4 cache for CPU but here without the need of additionnal slot/module).

Thanks

I have a problem on my Strix B760-F motherboard where the WiFi adapter has failed and needs to be replaced.  The problem is that it appears to be stuck under the heat sink near the IO panel which, by the looks of it, I can only remove if I completely disassemble and take the MB out of the case.  This is nuts - serviceable items should be acceptable without having to completely disassemble the PC.

Hi thescouselander,

See my post https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/intel-700-600-series/make-future-motherboard-feature-suggestions-here/... in this thread about 2 pages back where I have also suggested that the boards should be created with the ability to add and replace components. This used to be the case about 20-30 years ago when I started building PC but the concept is now lost in the wake of convenience.

Disclaimer: I am not an ASUS support person so my information may be incomplete. Always follow official documentation and material provided by ASUS representatives.

I'm assuming that some people already have the next-gen boards. Has Asus returned to tradidion?

When it comes to software like Armory Crate - as long as all the main stuff (like fan curves) can be done in BIOS, I don't really care about the crappy software. Just don't force us to use it.

I miss not having a 3rd pcie slot having x8 lanes from chipset in mid to premium motherboards.

You've made it x4, or bifi 4x4 in recent years, but it would be a great thing to make it x8 and then be able to go bifi 4x4.

Just helps a great deal for many who want to add an additional card such as a raid or high bandwidth nic or even an nvme accelerator AIC. I don't think it costs more in parts as such, just something to consider in the design of the boards and at bios level.

Boards have become very expensive in recent years, no thanks to the synthesized energy crisis and ever-rising inflation across the western hemisphere in particular... in that respect it would be nice to just have that extra expandability, because HDET systems are second-mortgage level purchases and rarely an option for regular normal working people.

Other than that, I just wish you'd cut back on the RGB, it is getting old now... why not just go for slick stealth looks with monotone highlight colors here and there, 'Tron' like... rather than 70's disco colours...
