System configuration:
CPU: Intel Core i9-285K (no OC, Intel performance profile activated)
Mainboard: ASUS Z890 Maximus Hero (BIOS version 1801)
GPU: ASUS RTX 5090 (PCIe 5.0 x16)
RAM: Corsair Dominator DDR5-6400
PSU: Corsair 1500W
M.2 SSD (M2_6 slot): WD 4TB SN850X
Operating system: Windows 11 Pro (latest version, all updates installed)
Problem:
Without additional SSD the system runs flawlessly, no crashes or framerate issues.
However, as soon as I install a Samsung 9100 Pro SSD in the M2_1 slot, massive problems occur in games such as Diablo 4.
The GPU stays on PCIe 5.0 x16, the SSD runs on PCIe 5.0 x4 - so apparently everything is correct.
Symptoms:
Severe frame rate drops: from 150-160 FPS to 90 FPS or less
Jerks,Stutters every few seconds in the game
After removing the Samsung 9100 Pro, everything runs absolutely smoothly again
What I have tried so far:
Tested other Samsung 9100 Pro SSD → exactly the same problem
Reinstalled the drivers and all chipset/GPU updates → no improvement
Question: Is the Samsung 9100 Pro SSD possibly not compatible with the M2_1 slot or generally not compatible with the GPU on this board?
Does anyone have similar experiences or solutions?
I am very grateful for any help!

I don't have your exact configuration and had to go with another brand PCIe 5.0 drive. My video card is still PCIe 4.0.
Basic questions, and I have to ask, you did remove the plastic thermal pad covers? Have you done a speed test on the Samsung Drive?
Your OS is on the larger, slower M.2 drive?
You are running two PCIe 5.0 devices, Video and storage, off the Processor. Perhaps, it is overloaded when the primary OS drive is running off the chipset. You might try installing, for testing, the Samsung drive in a PCIe 4.0 slot.

Looks like this could be a platform issue with the CPUS themselves so dont think it can be fixed unless intel come out with a magic microcode and ME. PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD Throughput Issues on Intel Core Ultra 200 Platforms
