ASUS Z890 HERO Fails to Boot with 4 RAM Sticks (Post-BIOS 1901)

So, I've been happily running my rig with 4×16 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 5200 sticks on BIOS version 1501.

I’ve just bought a Corsair Dominator Titanium RGB 2×48 GB 7000 kit, so in preparation for its arrival, I updated the BIOS to the latest version (1901).

After the update, the PC refuses to boot—it gets stuck at QCode 31, and after a couple of minutes, it eventually boots into BIOS with an F1 prompt to modify settings.

I've reset BIOS to defaults multiple times, to no avail.

I then tested booting with a single stick in slot A2, and the PC booted perfectly. I tested all four of my original sticks individually in that slot—no issues. Then I tested dual-channel in A2 and B2, and again, every combination of the four sticks worked just fine.

However, as soon as I populate all four slots, the problem returns.

Specs:

  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 HERO

  • CPU: Intel Ultra 9 285K

  • 4X[16 GB Corsair CMT32GX5M2B5200C40] DDR5-5200 / PC5-41600 DDR5 SDRAM UDIMM, SK Hynix, A-Die, 1R
