Z790

Hi all!
Is there any information on the timing of the release of motherboards based on the Z790 chipset and what will be its advantage over the Z690?

Interesting.

Makes me want to wait a few weeks after the Z790 Apex releases - before buying. 😞

Why couldn't Asus fix the Z690 Apex memory issue with bios updates? 😞

Perhaps you'd better wait not a few weeks, but a few months. But in any case, this is a lottery, since the store may sell the mother boards from the first batch in a few months - this is also a matter of logistics ..
Unfortunately, there are no comments (official) from Asus on this forum, but the problem exists.

As for the BIOS - I'm not sure that this can be solved programmatically. It is possible that the problem is hardware, which is why later revisions of the Z690 Apex are more stable and allow you to overclock DDR5 memory to 7000+ without any problems, or set extremely low timings with little overclocking.

Man, that REALLY makes me upset. Asus messing up the very first batches of the Z690 Apex motherboards for enthusiasts.

The only reason you buy an Apex is for the memory overclocking, and they messed it up. 😞

If they couldn't even fix the issue with a bios update it must have been a physical limitation of the 1st few boards, some incorrect component placement or failure.

Did everyone receive an updated motherboard who was involved? If not, I'll begin to consider OTHER brands for Z790. 😞

Even though Asus has acknowledged no responsibility for this issue, its hard for me to believe they would make the same mistake two generations in a row.

Someone at Asus knows about this.

Was planning on buying from the Asus Store US like my Z590 Apex, hmmm they have a 30day return policy right, return the motherboard for any reason?

I'm finding out right now. If it's not clear then I'll wait a few days and buy from Newegg and return the board if DDR5 overclocking is substandard.

Asus Store US usually has new gen motherboard availability about a week earlier than Newegg, but I don't mind waiting.

Your questions are too complex.
Personally, I would be lazy to buy a motherboard, set everything up, and then hand it in under RMA, and it’s not clear how long it will take to replace it just because the memory in it worked a little slower than we would like.

My questions are too complex because they contain more than one element in question? 😄

I'm going to test the new Z790 Apex motherboard extensively with a few DDR5 kits within the 1st few days after opening the box. Doesn't everyone do that? 🙂

Maybe I'm just a bonehead. 😛

Bruce, your questions are quite legit.
I'm gonna take a look on forums how this plays out... Asrock Formula/Aqua or whatever they release now might be a better option.

probably no Apex this round...
it's only Extreme & Hero listed for the time being

JJ says the Z790 Apex is launching later, so October or November maybe. 🙂

Only (3) Z790 Maximus boards are mentioned: Extreme, Hero, and Apex.
