I've got some issues with my board, which I'm sure can be fixed with a bios update.

When I'm playing games under heavily load starfield is one of them I am getting massive spikes and a loss of usb resulting from them.

Most gpu are only pcie 4 and the 7900xtx is that, is there something wrong with my mobo causing issues? The gpu spikes ar 561w occasionally then I get the usbs disconnect and then reconnect but the keyboard needs to be unplugged and plugged back in. Only happens under stupid load.

I'm using a 7900 xtx Sapphire  nitro

Cpu is a 13900

And I have a 1000w psu

A GPU firmware update might be worth looking into. The other thing that occurs to me is that if you installed MSI Afterburner then you will be able to limit the max GPU power to whatever (%) you like. That would prevent those spikes. A newer BIOS might be a good idea anyway, but not sure it would help with the GPU. I'd check the GPU firmware and Afterburner anyway. I use it all the time and it works perfectly for me. You can also limit the GPU temperature if you prefer and decide if temp or power limits get priority.

Z690 Hero, 12900K, BIOS 4001, MEI 2433.6.3.0, ME Firmware 16.1.32.2473, 7000X Case, RM1000x PSU, ASUS TUF OC 3090TI, 2 x 16GB Corsair RAM @ 5200MHz, Windows 11 Pro 23H2, Corsair H150i Elite AIO, 4x Corsair RGB fans, 3x M.2 NVME drives, 2x SATA SSDs, 2x SATA HDs.

Hi John, thanks for the reply.

Using afterburner could be an option it's going nicely at 360w no issues at all. It's the spikes that are the problem. Can I limit that with afterburner?

I've updated the mobo bios to the latest there's no gpu update bios so far

Yes, I think Afterburner should do the job nicely. It's slightly confusing at first, but once you learn to use it, it's very good. You can also set up custom GPU fan curves as well. I have set up the GPU temp (max) to 65C with the fans running at 55%. When the temp falls the fans turn off completely. However, you can allocate power limit as the priority if that's better for you. Give it a go, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

This is how I have it set up:
