Hi all,
Sorry if this has been asked a million times before.... I'm converting my workstation into an unraid server and have a question.
Currently have a z790 Max Hero w/ intel 13900
I have 3 NVME 990 Pros in M2_1, M2_2, and M2_3.
RTX 4070 in PCIEX16G5_1.
I want to add a quad M.2 Card into PCIEX16G4 and drop in 4 more 990 pros. (Amazon.com: ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 Gen5 Card (PCIe 5.0/4.0) Supports Four NVMe M.2 (2242/2260/2280/22110...)
Also need to add a SATA expansion card into PCIEX16G5_2 (Amazon.com: BEYIMEI PCIE 4X to 6 SATA Expansion Card, 6Gbps SATA3.0 Controller Card with LED Monitor...)
If I'm reading the mobo manual correctly, this should work in allowing all 7 NVME drives to be available (as well as the 6 new sata ports) and the only downside would be the video card will drop down to 8x as opposed to 16x. And if I understand that correctly, it's typically a 5% drop in performance which I'm willing to live with.
Can anyone confirm my understanding?
Thanks,
Frank

Hi @franks
More often than not, it will be less than 5%. So I wouldn't be concerned with this

Thanks for that. Do you know if all 4 lanes on the M.2 card will be active with this config?
