Hi,
after a very long time of considering I've received the Z790-I as a backup solution due to the declining stock of mini itx motherboards. The Z890-I I've skipped for now due to the underwhelming Intel cpus. Background is as well the staged DDR memory crisis.
I cannot find a hint how to use the HIVE. Can I connect stereo speaker to this board?
https://www.asus.com/us/support/faq/1048854/
BESIDES: What about Z890-I? There is no HIVE II manual and the Z890-I manual does not explain anything regarding audio.
Just found a manual for some HIVE II but not on the Support page of Z890-I but AMD X870-I.
HIVE II: There is only 1 connector left for 'Headphone jack with Mic in'.
My Z690-I has Audio Ports and I can connect my speaker system via USB, via the Green Led Line out and Bluetooth.
But how is this working here? If I have to use a external USB soundcard which is recommendable?
The manual shows the term 'Audio' but no content.
Update: Funny. Just found my own 2022 thread relating this issue:

The manual did come with the insert? if not here
For the speakers you use headphones. once the apps are installed it will detect that is speakers is use.
PLEASE update the bios to the top version that is 3001. Once the bios is install as rule of thumb, once you enter bios, please read the screen, f5 to load default then f10 to safe so the intel profile is set correct.
Prior to install windows make sure CSM is disable. secure boot set to standard (UNLESS you want to use another os like linux then use Custum) and VMD disabled. F10 and install windows 11 (25h2) use normal way do not bypass (personal note) WILL WORK PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tested. if you want to follow youtubers up to you.
once windows is install and updated and drivers are loaded THEN you can make changes in bios like XMP. TIP use XMP2
you can use drivers from the website OR asus forums. you can ask here

Hi, do you personally own the Z790-I and connected a speaker ? Naturally I've studied the HIVE manual. You can find a few threads like on reddit regarding this issue. But: I've not seen a single working evidence from owners through the years of existence of the MB.
So Number 10 SPDIF out [Sony/Philips Digital Interface] is Line out for speaker you say. Why is there not a single explanation to this issue in the manual? Why this silence and why can't an official Asus expert clear up the mystery?
Thank you for your thorough guide. If daring to install this MB (as I may return) I would just clone my 990 Pro and install on open bench and see what happens. Comparing drivers between Z690-I and Z790-I shows they are identical.
Doesn't this look charming?

I do not own one, but work on some on clients build. The speaker will go on Headphone jack with mic The board will automatic detect if is headphones or speaker.
you can try to use the spdif out put. the plug is mostly the same just the plug is different. since have a light in the center cause the spifif. In fact this works a the same as the case 3.5mm pluig on the case.
If you need a official Asus expert, please contact asus support direct here, and follow the links as normal.
The forum has 2 users that are asus personnel (and 4 for website or forum issues), but most are like me pro users or active users on the forums.
Al notes on how the hive works, that i think is a nice device, are on the manual ont he device. on paper or board website. the hive has now 3 years on market or so. so most is known.
Any question please feal to ask or contact asus support.
cheers and enjoy the board is cool to have.

always very helpful your advisory.
As I've hands-on the HIVE I the 3.5 mm stereo jack has been already plugged in experimentally and it fits. So to prove the function the MB has to be installed. As I may return the board in an unused condition I'd like to find some information here. There is very little user information and though 3 years on the market the MB seems to be nearly unknown. On newegg some user had bad luck with DOA and others with later failures.
Would be very pleasant to hear some of the owners with real life experience.
