Z790 Hero Bios 1501 XMP Problems (Major)

I posted here a few weeks back regarding memory compatability problems with XMP profiles on a Z790 HERO and some 8000mts Ram.

Would i be correct in saying that  XMP profiles I + II only adjusts the timings of the ram. One is the manufacturers preset and the other being one tweaked by ASUS themself . "Only" being the operative word here , as in it should not affect any other parameters on the board outwith the RAM timings.

Hi,

XMP I = Primary timings read from SPD EEPROM of the memory module. Certain key sub-timings are tweaked by ASUS, and this is the memory profile that is used for validation.

XMP II = Is the default DIMM profile provided by the memory vendor and applies sub-timings from SPD EEPROM provided by the memory vendor.

The memory vendor can use SPD to program voltages related to memory stability. Most commonly VDIMM or VDD / VDDQ in this instance, but also other signal related voltages as well such as VCCSA.

It's important to note that the Z790 Hero has not been validated for 8000MT. A reasonable rule of thumb for selecting memory kits is to choose those with frequencies at least three ratios below the motherboard's maximum validated frequency. Adhering to this rule typically enables seamless use of two-DIMM or four-DIMM configurations without the need for extensive manual tuning. Opting for a lower-speed kit can enhance plug-and-play compatibility.

You were the person who originally replied to my original thread regarding this matter and can probably remember my feelings regarding this.  I originally thought the system instablilty was solely down to ram that was not being on the QVL list as being the source of my problem and others suggested maybe the CPU memory controller was not up to the task and why the system was so unstable and why i was experiencing thermal issues as well (With an Ryuo iii 360 running very hot).

After returning the RAM and replacing it with 5600 mhz ram , i have still been having the same stabillity issues and have managed to work out exactly what the problem has been since day one via trial and error when i have had the time.

XMP II profiles on this bios are not only loading the memory timings from the ram , but is also unlocking the voltage caps to the CPU and as a consequence has been "OVERVOLTING" my cpu whenever i am using it. Pretty major problem i would say  .......

 

You'll need to be more specific. Generally, when we overclock the system more voltage is typical. Not a major problem at all, in fact it's not a problem.

Memory-associated voltages will scale with frequency. If you don't want to overclock the CPU, don't run overclocking profiles such as XMP and leave MCE disabled.

MCE disabled / SVID intel fail safe/ Adaptive Boost OFF + 5600mhz RAM which is the ram's default speed. And its pumping 1.634 volts to a 14900K and running @ 58c idle.

1. 5600MHz is considered an overclock in the configuration you're running it in. See guidelines for Intel memory specification. When we bump memory frequency above stock, we can expect some uplift for motherboard auto rules on respective voltage such as MCVDD and VCCSA.

2. You're running Intel failsafe for SVID, so yes, the CPU is going to be running what Intel consider to be worst-case scenario for VID, hence the voltage.

Am i reading this correctly that only 4800mts would be supported in a setup with 2 x 32gb sticks ?

the distinction between stock and what’s considered an overclock needs to be understood. Overclocking involves going beyond the manufacturer specification. However, 5600MT should be easily obtainable in the density you wish to run. 

2 DIMMs on a 4 DIMM board as per the chart above = 5200MT as the maximum stock frequency, regardless of number of ranks.

How can I set the DDR5 ( 4 ram x32 )bus as reasonable?
