Z790 Hero 13900KS not letting me run at default PL1&2

For some reason my Z790 Hero when I have everything at default with MultiCore Enhancement disabled my 13900KS is not sticking to it's default PL1 and PL2 Limit as it is setting both of the limits to 320.0W.

I can not get the chip to run at stock could this be a fault with the bios ? I am using Bios ver. 0813

Power Limits should 253W PL1 & PL2 not 320W

what is going on ?

I don't know if we should open a post on the hardware & software support section on the forum or if there is a better way to report this. Maybe Shamino or Silent Scone could give us an opinion if this is expected behaviour or not, but I don't know if tagging is allowed on the forum.

Something changed in 0813 bios. It forced my power related issue as well.

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?132173-13900KS-BIOS-0813-Z790-E-GAMING-WIFI-Hard-Crashes

I posted this on the overclocking forum last week or so when after I got my KS. I went from a K to a KS and with default intel stuff forced.. its set at 320 vs 253. I told the bios devs about it and they said it was correct. With undervolting etc Im at 270 watts at full load. So im not too worried about it. If you are worried about it you can force the 253 watts if you want.

Was this on overclock.net? I can run LLC2 instead of LLC3 at auto and this already drops maximum watts usage to around 270~280 watts. However, it doesn't sound like 320W by all limits should be enforced, there is no AIO that could cool that amount of watts, especially because the size of the die is too small to efficiently dissipate heat. Comparing to eg. old HEDT chips, they could eat 400W for breakfast and you could still cool the bigger die just fine.

Thank you. Might ask him there if he gives a more thorough answer than single line... 😉

Got an answer from bianbao that with 13900KS 320W is correct. I don't know why or how but seems like this is by Asus design.

Since you are using a Maximus Z790 hero. Did you ever have any memory problems with it, or BSODs?
And if you did, how did you solve it?

I did actually have a couple of issues in the beginning on 1st release

First issue was memory problem even though it was on the QVL List it still gave me qcode 53 and 55 non stop even on default with out xmp enabled and and then the more I used the system I started to see less but it would still appear every now and then. I changed the memory and the issue went away all together.

I then had an issue with the 13900k it was constantly blue screening I could not get into windows and if I did it would be for less than a min. In the end I got qcode 00 and could do nothing. Intel RMA said the chip was faulty.

I was really unlucky but these things happen I have 13900KS touch wood it is doing alright.

The Z790 Hero does have an issue with PCI Native Power Management that causes lots of WHEA Errors and the only solution is to disable it.

My system is stable now running xmp 7200 and Ai Oc no issues with blue screens etc.
