Z790-gaming wifi ii 2001 bios performance issue dune awakening (more?)

Ok, so i have had issues with my 14900k over the last 3 months even after the 1801 bios update, but downclocking my cpu has worked to get games and programs running and stable, but as thats not ideal i contacted intel to see about getting a replacement cpu, first suggestion from them was to update my bios to version 2001, and i did, still same issue, programs and games crashing, till i downclock, then all is fine, or so i thought, dune awakening was great before the bios change, after it felt terrible, frame times made the 200+ fps i was getting feel more like 20-30 stuttering and just unplayable, i tried all sorts to fix it including reinstalling the game, updating graphics drivers and motherboard drivers, nothing made it better, so i rolled back the bios to 1801, and it feels great again, im wondering if anyone else is having issues like this and if they have found a solution in the bios some place?

Hi @Rava63d

Ultimately, if downlocking resolves the issue, then you were right to reach out to Intel. Monitor the situation, and if you continue to experience problems, I would pursue an RMA.

but it does not solve the issue of the bios causing issues, i have read that other people have also had issues with performance and other issues related to the 2001 bios update, i think asus need to take a look, the 1801 bios is totally fine, so its something in the 2001 thats been changed .

It's more likely going to be due to the ucode, rather than anything that ASUS has primarily done. There's no reason to update Z790 from ASUS' standpoint otherwise.

I'm assuming you've tested on 2001 at Optimised Defaults, so no XMP or overclocking of any kind?

yup, tested for the last cpl of days and cant get it to be any better, the ucode is supposed to stay even after the rollback, so i cant see that being the case.

ME firmware is not reversable, correct. But the CPU ucode, or otherwise microcode, is.

fair enough, my misunderstanding,  but  the fact still remains that the 2 install at the same time, bios and ucode, so the update is causing potential issues no matter what is causing that issue, i just felt it was worth ASUS perhaps taking a look and seeing if they have a hand in the issue with the update as im sure they have a good understanding what changes have been made by themselves between the 2 bios updates so could have an idea if its something done by them or by intel.
