Hey everyone ,
I just bought this mobo and built with it amazing build and really want to make the most of it!
i9 14900ks
mobo: Z790 Formula
psu: 1200w Thor p 2
gpu: Rtx 4080 rog strix oc
ram: 7200mhz Corsair dominator (able to get to 7400mhz)
I thought to upgrade my ram to 8000mhz g skill which on ASUS qvl list but like I heard because its 4 dimm mobo there’s a chance it won’t post on 8000mhz btw my mc sp score 77 and cpu 100
this is the ram I want to upgrade too: F5-8000J4048F24GX2-TZ5RW cl 40
it’s on ASUS web but not g skill’s web so I’m pretty worried Btw I thought maybe to upgrade to 14900ks if won’t post or maybe just oc my 14900k which have now , btw my cooler is Ryujin iii cpu temp around 50-60 on load
I’m really glad for help from you experienced users I’m really new to it !

Hi @Yuvaletzi ,
8000MT is tough on 2 DIMM per channel boards, hence why it’s the maximum frequency validated.
For better success in achieving "plug and play" overclocking, consider memory kits that are one to three frequency bins below the motherboard's maximum qualification on the QVL. The higher the frequency and tighter the timings, the more likely manual tuning might be needed to adjust for signal variance between parts—success with memory kits at or near the top of the QVL validation table depends largely on the quality of the CPU memory controller. For more information on XMP read here

So like I saw on the ASUS web it listed on qvl list so if I’ll choose xmp I it will work? With my z790 formula? And if not can you please give me the values I’ll need to change to make it work? Like voltage or any other stuff I need to know?

There's no magic bullet with these things I'm afraid. That's the nature of overclocking, every CPU is different. Especially when wanting to achieve maximum validated ratio. There are no assurances, and not every CPU will be able to achieve 8000MT.
What part of my post above are you unclear on? Realistically, if you're having to ask these questions, I wouldn't purchase a kit at the top of the QVL - as suggested above.

I just want to know as I really want to get this kit, in case my computer won't boot what can be done? Change the processor to 14900ks? My question is, is the z790 formula capable of containing the speed and everything will depend on the IMC of the processor?

The memory controller is on the CPU, and 8000MT is a substantial overclock. Nobody can offer you the assurances you're looking for. I've already explained the recommendations and why not to opt for top validated kits, as signal margins become tighter - that's why it's the maximum validation.

So if that so why it’s more likely the apex / apex encore will be capable for this memory speeds if we’re talking about the same exact cpu?

Yes, I ran into the same issue with a Dark Hero Z790. I swapped to an Apex Encore Z790 and have been running at 8200 ever since on a 14900K. I loved the build so much I built a second one for my wife. 14900K, Apex Encore, Corsair Titanium 48GB @ 8200 DDR5.

Well that great ! What did u do with the dark hero? I can’t return it here in israel it’s a shame ASUS claims 8000 for the formula I picked it only because it white and fit my build , will I able to make it work with my formula? Maybe if some manual adjustment?

I could not return the Dark Hero either. It's sitting in a box in my office at home.
