Z790-F BIOS Update Working?

Ironpants

I have started a BIOS update (moving from v1801 to v2801)

I initiated the update via the BIOS (ex flash 3) rather than the ‘manual method’ (the usb stick was formatted fat32 and contained only the bios update.

the update started at which point I left it to it and didn’t monitor the proceedings. I returned around an hour later. The PC is on and idling (lights on memory, fans on everything at idle speed, power to mouse and keyboard). Another hour has passed, the update has been ‘running’ for almost 2.5 hours now and there is no indication that anything is actually happening (my monitor is not receiving a signal from either the mobo or gpu hdmi port, and I have also tried another monitor, nothing being output).

the question is, am I being impatient? It’s doing its thing, let it cook etc. or is my intuition correct and the update has failed ? The big question, which every fibre of my being is telling me to do, do I power cycle at this point and see if the bios loads?

Bit the bullet and hit the big button. Rebooted with new version and on I to windows ok. Guess it completed and got bored waiting for me to restart or didn’t provide a prompt

Oh, and Captain Hindsight just appeared and told me I should have upgraded from 1801 - 2801 in stages (there’s 8 updates altogether)
