Z790 Dark Hero 1703/1704 BIOS

Not long ago ASUS released the 1703 BIOS for the Z790 Dark Hero mobo, and now they pulled the 1703 without any explanation whatsoever.

Would it be possible for ASUS give out a statement on why 1703 was removed? Was it due to a critical bug? Or something minor?

Some regions already saw the new 1704 BIOS released for the Dark Hero (e.g., Philippines, Hong Kong). What is the difference between 1703 and 1704? Is it a must for folks to upgrade their BIOS again ASAP?

I am on the 1703 BIOS atm and would like to know if it is secretly frying my components or summoning the great Cthulhu without my knowledge. Please clarify on this issue ASUS.

1704 is out now in more regions, say UK and Singapore:

It looks like they pushed another LED firmware update with 1704. I don't know for sure if that is the only change and is part of the change(s), since ASUS has been absolutely quiet on this issue. Quite frustrating if I am being honest.

Hello! Yes, it looks like they were in a hurry! After installing Bios 1703, my Cyber Grid backlight became very slow. I wanted to complain to Asus.  Updated to 1704, the backlight returned to its previous form. Everything is fine now!

Hi everyone,

I hope all is well.

I have updated my ROG MAXIMUS Z790 DARK HERO to the Version 1704 BIOS (was version 1503). While the update was successful, Windows 10 22H2 no longer boots. Instead I’m receiving a BSOD for the iaStorvd.sys driver.

I don’t believe this is related to the BIOS update, it may simply be a BIOS setting now defaulted that previously wasn’t but my advice would be to have a bootable Windows installation USB drive and a backup of your data available before updating your BIOS.

I’ll keep troubleshooting on my side. Thanks.

My system has gotten very unstable since upgrading from 1503 to 1704.  Way more BSOD issues and general instability than I ever got before.  I cant even overclock anymore without getting into a boot loop or immediately crashing shortly after windows launch.

There may be a problem with the compatibility of RAM or its settings.

I set ram to default settings.  Downgrading back to 1503 has the computer running perfectly stable, even with overclocked ram and cpu.  Upgrading back to 1704 and the system becomes somewhat unstable.  If I overclock the cpu, I get boot loops and crashes shortly after windows start.

Maybe you had Rapid Storage RAID mode before the bios update, and after the update it became off? Or vice versa.

No raid mode enabled at any time.

Hi @ATOdinson have you tried to CLEAR CMOS after installing 1704? Since 1704 came with a new ME version maybe clearing the CMOS may help bring the stability back for you.
