Hey y'all. So just built a new rig and I'm seeing fantastic idle temps (27c-29c) and really high gaming temps (80c-85c). Benchmark / load tests regularly hit 95c (sometimes 100c). Specs are below:
Lian Li 011 Dynamic XL + 4 Corsair QX120 (3 bottom fans set to intake + 1 rear fan set to exhaust)
Intel i9 14900k
h150i iCUE LINK 360mm AIO (3 x fans below rad exhausting hot air out the top of the case - also installed a Thermal Grizzly Contact Plate)
z790 Dark Hero (w/ 1503 BIOS released in August)
Corsair Dominator 6400 RAM (2 x 16GB - on this Mobo's QVL)
MSI Suprim Liquid X 4090 (240mm AIO Rad attached set to exhaust out the right side of the case)
4 x Samsung 990 Pro 4TB m.2 drives installed in M2_2 --> M2_5 (to preserve the 16x PCI lanes for the GPU)
I've got everything set to stock with the exception of the XMP Profile (I've tried XMP 1, 2, Tweaked and no XMP as well, to no avail). I've tried undervolting by -0.0700, 0.0800, on and on, with no relief in temps under load.
I should also mention that I believe the AIO is working as the idle temps are great, the coolant temps get to 39c-40c and the air coming out of the AIO feels like a furnace (not quite that hot, but hot).
Any thoughts? In room temp is about 25c, and the air flow is pretty suboptimal (the case is under a desk, against the wall). Could the poor airflow be the root cause? I don't really have anywhere else to put it.
Any help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance.

I have the same board, CPU and see mostly same temperatures. My setup is also under the desk. So adding myself to this post to watch what others have to say. When you say, "I have everything set to stock with the exception of the XML Profile", which stock profile are you using "Intel Performanc", "Intel Extreme", or "ASUS OC"?

I’ve tried all 3 (and right now am using Performance)

I also have the 150i Corsair AIO and it's very good. It's a little cooler where I am and currently my CPU is 28C and coolant is around 29C. However, even when it is warm here (over 25C), it would be very unusual for the coolant to go above 35C in my machine, even when playing games.
I only have a 12900K so no experience with the 14900K, but I suspect that airflow is your problem. If the air exiting the radiator feels hot, then I think that's because the airflow is probably not good enough. I would say that my air only ever feels warm, never hot.
Maybe you could move the case at least 5cm from the wall? The other thing you could try is set up custom fan curves for the AIO and case fans. Here are my settings:
Also check your pump speed, mine is typically running at 2260rpm on the 'quiet' setting.
The other thing is to make sure that you keep the case filters clean. We have dogs and I have to clean the machine out once a week. Unbelievable how must dust accumulates and my machine isn't even on the floor. If it was, I'd probably have to do it every 2 days!

Hi @mrosenbu
You may wish to try without the contact frame. Depending on the curvature of the IHS, they can sometimes create more issues than they solve. 80C load in games indicates a problem if using Intel Default profiles.

Thanks @Silent_Scone - based on what I’ve posted, do you think I might have an AIO issue? Or just a contact issue with the CPU?

Difficult to say vicariously, however, if you're using the Intel Default profile the the maximum current one can draw is 253W. Those temps are quite high for those levels on that cooler. Assuming the pump is working as expected, the contact with the IHS is poor or the thermal application must be reapplied.

Thanks @Silent_Scone - any ideas why when using the default Intel profile why my CPU package went up to 280w? Here are HWInfo64 screenshots of my most recent R23 Cinebench run, which had me undervolting.

Software reporting. Can be inaccurate and depends if there's anything else polling the system simultaneously.
