So I’m thinking I’m might get a better OC on 16g memory as Bruce has already suggested. Might be higher bin as was noted but also might be lower density compared to the obvious 48g kits. I just ordered a 32g team group kit 8000 white at Newegg. I’m going to test this next week. I also saw this on GSKILL as I was searching the net. Just a few tweets about not shipping 8000 kits:

Gskill 8000 2x16GB kit doesn't work with most 13th gen CPUs even at XMP? That makes sense, why would it?
And can you imagine the plethora of motherboards (with which) people are attempting 8000 XMP?
Maybe the reason for the EOL.
QVL's are not perfect...but.

I think if you have Z790 Apex, Raptor Lake i9-chip then your limiter is your CPU IMC, and your OC ability,.. I would say both are needed for 8000 + frequency stable.
I have only tested three DDR5 kits so far on Intel Z790,.. and it is indeed very impressive to say the least.
You need to test different kits with different type IC to find out how the ICs react to your system, some IC do not clock well above 8400, some will go 8600. Finding your systems sweet spot for different IC is very time consuming, lots of testing,.. it's not plug & play. Some of the new TG 2x24GB kits are using M-die single sided, most of the 2x16GB above 7200 are using high binned A-die single sided,.. and some 2x24GB kits are now confirmed to be using Micron ICs,.. the G.SKILL 2x24GB kits are using new 3GBit Hynix A-die ICs. All those memory kits are going to react differently when overclocked, some will not work with high voltages above XMP voltages, some like tight primary timings, some don't,.. lol
It's going to be interesting, fun times the next few months with Z790 Apex system,.. overclocking DDR5 with older 2x16GB and the new 2x24GB kits. The 3GBit Hynix A-die 2x24GB 8000 kits will do 8000 CL40 at 1,35V,.. that's impressive. 😉

Exactly. I have the Apex and a pretty good i9 - Intel 13900KS SP111 P121 E93 MC83.
Yet my ddr5 OC abilities are extremely poor. ☹️
I also feel bad about not spending enough time tweaking and tuning my 13900KS and the 8000 2x16 kit really deserve more, but we have company from out of state - again this weekend. 🙄
8200 CL34 1.52v is all I've achieved since March. Imagine if I had skills where I'd be.

Possibly no further than you are now. As you’re on a test bench I would consider watercooling the modules, temperatures are hugely important here. Also the fact max validation is documented as 8000MT is telling. There are only so many things a vendor can do to eliminate crosstalk and signal related “nasties” that prevent someone finding stability, and these signal margins become much tighter the higher the memory frequency. This means the voltage window for stability for the associated rails such as the CPU system agent (for example) become much narrower.
Moreover, some users will have gone through multiple memory kits, CPUs and motherboards to achieve 8400+ unconditionally - so I wouldn’t feel disheartened.

8000-8200MT with the right kit on the Z790 Apex is fairly pain free, although you will need a reasonable CPU. On 4 DIMM boards the odds are stacked against you, the boards aren’t validated for these speeds.

Up at 4am attempting 8400.
First boot with high voltages and very loose primaries, have not run TM5 stability yet, just checking thermals trying to get a sense of how everything feels. Since I'm not water-cooling the 8000 2x16 kit should probably drop into AquaSuite and turn UP the Noctua DDR5 fan rpms to 100%. 👍
Disabled all Ecores.
You guys got me motivated to "get off my rear end" and get somewhere with my gear! 😁
Timings are extremely loose at this early stage, and again have NOT run TM5 yet, new Win11 install just for 8400 need to dnld TM5 and test.
Anyone see anything crazy in this screenshot I should adjust PRIOR to running stability?

I only have access to a 7200MT kit here, but 8400 does some conditional benching. My daily profile is 8200MT CAS36.
Subtimings are board optimised. VDD 1.48 VDDQ 1.44.

If the great benchers of this world are using 8200 CL36 as their daily - a home office writer guy like me should be happy with 8200MT CAS34 as his.
Spending time on 8400 if there's no chance I can use it to get work done - might add up to no gain at all.
Almost 3hrs of working 8400 and never seen so many different error codes 7F 66 36 99 etc. Think I need to pre-condition myself psychologically before going back and attempting 8400 again. 🤣
Not throwing in the towel just yet, but man I need some oxygen. 😄
