Any thoughts on latest Z790 BIOS 1402?

My situation is similar to yours. Since updating version 1402, I often accidentally quit playing games; The reason is that the CPU will report a Corrected Machine Check error, which did not appear in the previous version

Did they fix the WHEA-error on event viewer  when PCI-E Power management enabled on BIOS?

Nope! I am still seeing numerous Event ID 17 (WHEA-Logger) warnings in Event Viewer.

All my WHEA errors on NVMe PCIe lines are gone after BIOS update to version 1202, but I use default power saving setting for PCIe.

I noticed on recent BIOSes that there are ACPI errors related to unsynced BIOS queries.

ACPI Event ID:15
The embedded controller returned data despite no data request. The BIOS may be trying to access the embedded
controller without synchronizing with the operating system. This data will be ignored.
No additional steps are required, but you should contact your computer manufacturer for an updated BIOS.

Seems 1402 is not a very decent BIOS as there already is new beta 1501 BIOS.

Gone back to 1303 cos 1402 has increaed my cpu voltage . Also the opning screen has reduced Alt/Delete to something so sall that it's not readerble. Please Asus tell the 10 year old who wrote this crap to get his act togerther.

I can't even use the backup of my previous settings from 1303. Exiting with save and reset just freezes the whole UEFI.

It's incredible how all BIOS updates from Asus are ******. Is it the marketing department writing these updates? What a remarkable incompetence.

Hi,

You're updating the UEFI and CPU ucode, CMO profiles aren't always cross compatible. Some vendors don't even offer this functionality.

Start fresh, or simply don't update if you don't feel you have the time to invest in it.

More recent beta here. And once again, do not use an old CMO profile. 👍

"You're updating the UEFI and CPU ucode, CMO profiles aren't always cross compatible. Some vendors don't even offer this functionality."

Yeah, microcode for next-gen Intel CPU's. Maybe you get early access as a "Super Moderator" but for the rest of us, next-gen Intel CPU's aren't released yet. It's funny how the latest microcode update has not broken compatibility on Linux. Also funny how 5 years on my previous Gigabyte motherboard never had this issue.

Why are you defending ******ty BIOS updates?

At the risk of repeating myself

1. The majority of vendors lock BIOS profiles to that BIOS version.

2. BIOS Structure can always be potentially different, this is not exclusive to simply microcode which you are now fixating on. ME Firmware, page structure, etc.

3. If you feel you should be able to use the same CMO profile across every single UEFI update, I'm not sure what to tell you. I'm sure your disappointment would be postured differently to suggest ASUS allow cross-loading CMO if it were locked out.

Think we've exhausted that topic at this point. You can flashback, or save a txt file with your settings if needing to start over.
