I am running similar setup type like Linus Sebastian LTT.
I have my desktop pc placed in technical room and using thunderbolt docking station for remote control (keyboard, mouse...) and optical hdmi and dp cables for screen data.
With my previous setup (amd threadripper on gigabyte mb trx40) thunderbolt works always. I can during POST enter to bios, control and setap bios, remotely, through thunderbolt. It vas even possible boot from usb flash disk putted to usb in my thunderbolt docking station .
On my Asus z690 extreme thunderbolt works only when windows are loaded / booted and my keyboard or mouse do not work any time soon.
Also I did not found any possibility to reduce thunderbolt level of security.
Can someone help me ?
